I find most casinos a huge disppointment. I want James Bond type characters playing roulette and poker and generally what you get is bright lights, slot machines and seedy characters... IME

we don't need more casinos, but gambling per se is not a bad thing if you aren't an addict. my dh uses betfair, trades in and out of bets like a day trader on the NYSE. In the nine years we've been together he's never made a loss over a trading year. Bets cautiously, tho, so doesn't make huge amounts, but enough for a good holiday iykwim? he used to write about it for the observer.

The NYSE is rigged so that the house wins, and the money that comes out is more than what goes in. Quite the opposite of a Casino.

I'm divided on this one.
My standard view is that adults shold be allowed to do anything that doesn't hurt others, and gambling does not do that even slightly so much as booze, fags and fast cars.

But...
As we've seen even with the choice of Casino operator, the sleaze penetrated the government almost immediately.
Ironically, having the government involved makes it worse, not better. This means that laws will be passed to make the lives of the Casino operators easier, regardless of the rights of locals.
The "need" for security and "preserve jobs" will mean that politicians at both local and national level will get sucked in.

i never said he was day trading in a casino, DOC.

I do. I have done since I was 18, mainly on the horses. Used to do it most weeks and tracked it whilst I was at University, enjoyed it and came out on top over year. Don't do it as regularly now, only if particular jockey/trainer/horse I follow is running.

Not been to Casino for ages, although my DH and his mates do and win/lose stupid money. I do like betting shops though...me and my dad still go on Sat am's, even though he is more into online now.
Where's me flat cap...
