PinkTinsel · 19/12/2006 16:14

PinkTinsel · 19/12/2006 16:17

more details

PortAndLemonaid · 19/12/2006 16:22

So, not "in her classroom" and not "in front of stunned pupils", then... Still, ITV managed to get a whole 50% of their opening sentence correct

[lemonaid suddenly realises that she is straying perilously close to holding up the Telegraph as a model of journalistic integrity, and backtracks...]

I bet the tabloids have a field day with the fact that it is an RC school - they always love that angle

Saturn74 · 19/12/2006 16:39

Poor girl, she must have been terrified. I hope she gets lots of support.
Re: 'John Grady, spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of Leeds, said the birth was "not an everyday occurrence"'. Well, he's worth every penny, isn't he?

pantomimEdam · 19/12/2006 16:50

Some big wig from the LEA was interviewed on radio news and said teenage pregnancy rates weren't particularly high in the area but 'this is one that slipped through the net'. Given the poor girl didn't even know she was pregnant, that's kind of obvious! Sounded as if he was worried the LEA might be blamed or something bizarre...

I used to know a girl who gave birth on her 14th birthday. The father of her child was the son of her foster mother. He wasn't prosecuted. They married when she was 16 and at the last count had 5 children, by the time she was 23. Not Catholics, btw.

kittylettekissingsanta · 19/12/2006 22:02

my MIL is a devout catholic and had her first child at 13, 2nd at 15, 3rd at 17 and 4 th at 19

suedonim · 19/12/2006 22:44

There's a girl of 11.5yrs who's pg in the town where my mum lives. The father is 13.

PinkTinsel · 20/12/2006 11:41

suedonim, poor kids.... all 3 of them

paulaplumpbottom · 20/12/2006 13:43

I can't imagine, at 11 holding hands was still a very big deal and I hadn't let anyone kiss me yet. I just can't get over how young they start. I found motherhood at 27 demanding can you imagine at 11?

StrawberrySnowflakes · 20/12/2006 13:54

i went to catholic school and youngest pg was 13, my so called friend who decided she was better than me and buggerd off and got herself up the duff..refused to look after child, now he is brought up by her parents as thier son(last i heard they were planning to adopt him!!!!), then she went on to have another(2 years later 15), to another guy..this poor child, living with his grandparents, knowing his mum doesnt want him and has a sister whom she does want..stupid cow!

suedonim · 20/12/2006 14:02

My dd2 is 10yo and I cannot get my head round the fact that a child only a year older than her will have a baby soon. It's such an abrupt and irreversible end of childhood.

Elasticwoman · 20/12/2006 21:38

Let's not get this out of proportion. Pregnancy under 12 is very rare indeed. For most women the age of having first baby is rising.
