Such a giant of a man, such a sad loss. I know he's been out of the game for years now, but he was unforgettable. Such a great player (even if it was generally to our detriment!)

RIP and condolences to his family - such a shock for them too. :(

Thank you for your donations to the nephrotic syndrome trust (nest). Jonah was an ambassador for the society and I know all us parents of children with ns are gutted today. Any donations are very much appreciated xx

I've also been teary today as a fan of the game. He was just such a fabulous bloke and such an inspiration.

DS said on the way home from school today:

"It's been a tough 7 days. Paris ... Lebanon ... Jonah Lomu..."

LovelyFriend · 18/11/2015 20:26

Mergurz I agree with your DS wholeheartedly.
I feel completely wiped out tonight. Telly tea and an early night are on the menu tonight.

My thoughts and sincere condolences to his family and friends he was a giant of a man in every way, I've never heard a bad thing said about him.

He was a sight to behold when playing whichever side you supported you couldn't fail to be impressed by his skill and sportsmanship, very sad loss.

Still can't believe it, I am another watching old footage. Even my British football loving DH was very upset over his death. Times like this I get very homesick.

He gave so much too his sport, and his talent was unbelievable.

My mum was at a Fleetwood Mac concert in Dunedin (NZ) last night and said they dedicated 'landslide' to Jonah, apparently there were lots of tears in the audience.

elephantoverthehill · 18/11/2015 22:49

I was 'strangely' upset about this too. I text my son when I heard it on the radio this morning. I read Jonah's biography. I think he was a great man.

My son has suffered from Nephrotic Syndrome. Shocking loss. So sad.

I'm feeling really teary today. A mix of kiwi pride, homesickness, nostalgia for the past, sadness for the future of those poor boys and the sense that the NZ I knew and lived in is slipping away from me as one by one, the kiwi icons I grew up with, are passing on.

Grouchy I agree, one kiwi's success is owned by us all.

Thanks for everything, Jonah.

Occasionally you get a piece of news about a person you didn't even know and your first thought is "No, it can't be!" It was the same with Elena Baltacha, and now with Lomu.

Life can be so bloody cruel. RIP Jonah.
