Has a Labour giant Denis Healey really died?

I ask that due to the lack of tributes on here.

If some militant trade unionist croaks the Mumsnet board gets an outpouring of grief similar to those emotions in North Korea, when a geezer with a family name of Kim passes on.

I remembered Healey as Chancellor from the 1970’s as being trustworthy and meant well during very difficult times, but of course when he had to call in the IMF to financially bail the UK out - the spending cuts needed as a condition of the IMF loan didn't go down well with the faithful.

I think it sad that few seem to realise his contribution to the Labour movement (IMO), but feel somewhat relieved that same movement treats every politician (of whatever colour) the same, that has to do what is right in order to balance the UK's books.

Tbh I assumed he was dead already. Its a very long time since he was in power.

Bunbaker · 04/10/2015 00:24

Yes. He was 98 and described as the best Labour leader they never had.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 04/10/2015 00:30

He 'd gratefully retired and was a decent man in troubled times. My fb feed has been more than aware of his passing.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 04/10/2015 00:31

gracefully not gratefully although he was possibly grateful

hackmum · 04/10/2015 11:45

Mumsnet tends to be a bit quieter on Saturdays, ime.

DonkeyOaty · 04/10/2015 11:54

Yes a decent man, RIP

(I do rather take umbrage at being upbraided for lack of tributes. Not everyone wants to "publicly mark" a death of a someone. Iyswim.)

Tanith · 04/10/2015 13:20

Yes he has - and if you had any respect and decency, you wouldn't be using his death to peddle more of your biased agenda ??

Isitmebut · 05/10/2015 09:27

Tanith ... tell me that I'm wrong how quick the tributes come in on here if it was some trade union class warrior passing on.

FYI I was in my 20's when Healey was around so I was perfectly capable of forming my own opinion on the man, and whatever your politics he came across as a man with great political intellect and personality - somewhat lacking within the current muppets in Labour's #1 and #2 position who could not hold a light to him.

A good decent man had died, I was waiting to post my thoughts on someone elses OP - so I drew my own conclusions why no one bothered to mention it on here on ANY board (and I checked) several hours after his death announced - so bite me.

It was the normal-sized one who died, rather than a giant version....
