I'm not sure either really. I don't think she feels as if she ever did anything wrong. Thats just my impression anyway.

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 12:51

Certainly wouldn't be happy if she moved near to me though.

Furball · 10/05/2004 12:59

Tricky one, the problem is most won't give her a second chance and we all know what she looks like so unless she changes her facial features etc she can't hide. OK so she didn't actually 'do' the deed but how much can you love someone as to try protect them from from the horrific things they had done?

Ailsa · 10/05/2004 13:01

Isn't she in court this week for benefit fraud?

She also lied to get the job in the school though didn't she ?? I think thats a bit strange

muddaofsuburbia · 10/05/2004 13:29

Agree with Twiglett. MC appears very stupid and easily led. She was controlled by a very cunning and evil man. But no doubt, her new life will be discovered and the "great" British public will torch her house, throw bricks at her face and destroy her family - hurrah for forgiveness and second chances

littlemissbossy · 10/05/2004 13:30

yes ailsa she's been in court this morning, got off with community order waste-of-time thing. i agree with you twiglett that the media are making her out to be another myra hindley which, given the evidence, she's not, but the deception case has proven that she's a liar

Nutcracker · 10/05/2004 13:31

I don't agree with her being hounded when she gets out or anything like that, but i'm just not sure she has learnt her lesson and i wouldn't be surprised if she ever got into trouble again.

My cv had some corking falsehoods on it when I started out. I agree with Twiglett and Beetroot and Sophable. She did a stupid, misguided thing. He was the evil one. He killed the girls. She was actually hundreds of miles away at the time. I despise the press coverage of this issue. I think it's vile and deliberately trying to stir up mob violence. I wouldn't mind if she moved near me - I certainly wouldn't regard her as a threat to me or mine and my only worry would be about the kind of people who might seek to hurt her.

Piffleoffagus · 10/05/2004 14:24

my cv too, like that I cold drive and could type, I had no license nor any formal typing skills, got great reference though!
agree totally with Twiglett, not very bright girl desp to be iked and approved off, I've been there, hopefully she has had some therapy and some help to not get le along like that before, she has served the time for what she has been convicted for, thats all there is to it.

SenoraPostrophe · 10/05/2004 14:45

Beetroot, Sophable, Twiglett... I agree.

I was quite angry that they changed the rules for the tagging scheme to ensure she wasn't allowed to go home early too.

Nutcracker - I think she has learned her lesson, but it was nothing to do with being in prison. She lied to protect her lover from "victmisation" - her reaction to him in court suggests that she had no idea at the time that he was guilty and that she will never forgive herself for almost helping him to get away with it.

suedonim · 10/05/2004 14:57

I can't think that keeping her in prison beyond the sentence she was given will do anyone any good. I doubt she's a threat to society, more the other way round, if anything. I wonder what sort of community service she can do, with her being a recognisable face.

Agree with everyone else. Feel rather sorry for her (as well as the parents, of course). How on earth is she going to live without being attacked? People seem to be going after her as if she was equally guilty.
Amazing that all these papers that claim to be in favour of law and order, and always call for stiffer penalties for criminals, think it's OK to incite mob violence ? oh, and to shoot people who break into your house, even if they are running away from you.(And I'm a journalist BTW).

seems to me there is nothing the gen public hates more than a woman criminal, esp. if anything to do with children...i think this is v interesting area as real double standard exists between attitude towards men and women that have done the same crimes...will be watching the doc on c4 tomorrow night on eileen thingy (subject of the film 'monster' with interest...

Agree sophable. Similaryly, in the Iraq pictures, we are being pushed to be more horrified by the female soldiers than the male.

Freckle · 11/05/2004 02:24

How refreshing to read all this. I too thought I was the only one who felt that MC has been unfairly villified for a relatively minor offense. As she was nowhere near the scene of the crime when it happened and only lied because she felt that someone she loved was being hounded (truly believing that he was innocent), it seems incomprehensible that she should be tarred with the same brush as him. I do feel that the "public's" view of her is one generated by the media and I have no doubt that, when released, the media will continue to hound her. Seems as though they need a female horror figure.

Having said all that, I understand that she did know about his previous history (accusations of sexual assault, etc.), so either she's very naive or very stupid - or both.

nightowl · 11/05/2004 02:50

sorry but i dont believe it for one minute. how could she not have known what he'd done? how could she not suspect anything at all? im not a nasty person but i dont feel sorry for her one bit. he murdered two innocent children and she lied for him. i wouldnt want her anywhere near me. dont want to cause a row here, its just how i feel.

Cam · 11/05/2004 13:12

I don't think giving a double murder suspect a false alibi is a minor offense.
