Up to one in seven NHS operations unnecessary?

Does that ring true or false to you? Maybe is it a reasonable % "waste" given that no system will ever be perfect and most people prefer active to passive treatment for their problems?

Definitely depends on what you mean by unnecessary. I have had three lots of surgery in my life. One was to correct a squint, one was to remove impacted wisdom teeth and one was to enable me to have sex again after DC1. So non of them life-saving and 'necessary' from a technical point of view, but still necessary for my quality of life!
