I see the Guardian will have a pigs and goats poster this week. Anyone know what day it is? I know it's not today.

today sheep, tomorrow cattle, may be weds or thurs.

NotQuiteCockney · 13/11/2006 20:30

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it this week - or if anyone spots them saying "it's tomorrow" or gets one in their paper, please tell me?

DS2 is quite mad for pigs at the moment.

ahh - the sheep one is very dull, unless i suppose you like sheep

NotQuiteCockney · 13/11/2006 20:54

I expect pigs and goats will be dull too. But DS2 really loves pigs. Gets excited whenever he sees any.

If you miss it NQC, my parents are saving the whole darn lot for ds

We could probably come to some arrangement (although we are fond of our porcine brethren too as you know)

UnquietDad · 14/11/2006 09:26

This reminds me of the days of PG Tips "Wonders of Wildlife" tea-cards.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/11/2006 10:01

I suspect those were before my time (I've only been in the UK for 10 years or something).

Frances, we could probably make a deal with that alarming spinny thing - either I give it to your DS in exchange for the poster, or keep it from him for the poster, depending on who I'm bargaining with?

today cattle, tomorrow: crops! i can't wait for that one

CountessDracula · 14/11/2006 10:02

I have the cheese one on the back of my larder door

NotQuiteCockney · 14/11/2006 10:04

Crops! Goodness.

Well, at least it'll have the excitement (presumably) of mentioning rapeseed. We can't stand that term in Canada, so we call it canola. [eye-rolling]

I'm waiting for the Bacteria wallchart.

foxinsocks · 14/11/2006 10:17

every time I see those wallcharts, it takes me back to a wallchart on Sexually Transmitted Diseases that was displayed prominently in the Health Clinics at university.

A sort of line-up of penises and vaginas and what they look like once you caught various diseases.

Not sure that one will feature in the Guardian range though.

UnquietDad · 14/11/2006 10:17

"Types of bogey" are not far off, I imagine.

SenoraPostrophe · 14/11/2006 10:18

nqc.

did you know that same squeamishness is also the reason why cockerels are called roosters in america (and presumably canada)?

didn't they abolish cancer as a star sign too?

NotQuiteCockney · 14/11/2006 10:19

Here's a link for those of you pining for cute microbes. It's got syphillis, gonorrhea and HIV.

I've seen one in person, they're very very cute.

how many walls does the Guardian think we have?

You could have papered Versailles by now.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/11/2006 10:20

Yes, I know, we don't call them cockerels, ever.

To be fair, lots of countries get goofy about this stuff. Did you know that Putin is called Poutine in French, so they don't have to keep saying "whore"?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 14/11/2006 10:22

We also do our best to never say "toilet" - so we are forever looking for a place to rest, or wash, when all we want to do is pee.

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 14/11/2006 10:30

I have lived in the UK for 7 yrs and I still can't ask for the toilet. I just can't make it come out of my mouth.

NotQuiteCockney · 14/11/2006 10:46

But you can name yourself after your arse?

stleger · 14/11/2006 10:52

At the school bus stop in Maine, I met a young Labrador who was still learning to use the bathroom outside. Which was apparently less impressive than it sounds!

SenoraPostrophe · 14/11/2006 18:17

had the labrador been using the bathroom inside then? that is impressive.

paulaplumpbottom · 14/11/2006 18:30

hmmmmmm, you have a point

southeastastra · 15/11/2006 17:18

today: crops, tomorrow: poultry and waterfowl
