Best thing for seasickness is to go out on deck... was once stuck on a ferry from Ostend in a Force 9 gale that was stuck outside Dover unable to get through the breakwater for several hours and the toilets were full of people throwing up but I didn't have even a small heave out on deck... mind you, I did go down with bronchitis for three weeks after getting drenched to the skin for several hours...

Portsmouth to St Malo, force 9. Never ever ever going on a ferry again. The smell as the toilets overflowed with each lurch of the boat.. oh my god.

My sister was seasick on a pedalo - made me PMSL

KathyMCMLXXII · 14/11/2006 12:48

A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree....

mateychops · 14/11/2006 12:49

...particularly as I ended up marrying someone in the merchant navy

Kathy, funny thing is Mateychops was actually sitting under a tree at the time in a pedalo that was sitting on the sand and she still barfed.

KathyMCMLXXII · 14/11/2006 13:17

LOL Liesel.

mateychops · 14/11/2006 13:31

Liesel, I'm telling mum.

Have done many a trip on the Amsterdam to Newcastle overnight ferry (before Jet2 made air travel any thing less than a joke). Sometimes very vommy indeed, esp in winter and with rough crossing. Also v boring (15 hours) and expensive cos there is nothing else to do when travelling with 3 little kids other than do a mad dash round duty free and pay for loads of crap food at breakfast the next morning (as everyone has been in bed since 9 to avoid drunken louts on Amsterdam shag/booze cruise, and awake since 5 am and the ship docks at 10. Strangely, my kids love it and find the plane boring

I get terribly seasick and I lived on an island for 3.5 years! How mad is that? A minimum 2 hour ferry ride to the mainland

expatinscotland, do you mean the Rosyth - Zeebrugge one? We were on that in May, it was actually a lot better than I thought as I hated the idea of being on the damn thing for a whole night.

In fact dts were so taken we are probably going to book up for the summer holidays next year, god help me!

We don't drink though so can't vouch for the free wine! It is cheaper to pay for your meals on board though as it was £25 cheaper in all, under 5s go free, dh is insisting it is under 7s!

I am terrified of falling overboard, when we were going into Zeebrugge harbour everyone was out on the decks and all I could think was a big gust of wind could suddenly push me over. Would have to be a mighty big gust though!

MrsMuddle · 16/11/2006 00:07

Expat, we were on that ferry in July, and there is DEFINITELY no free wine. I would have sniffed it out if there had have been. The paid-for drinks were great though, especially the cocktails. I didn't barf once.
