Sorry it's a DM link.

Not sure what to make of it tbh.

DS is always strapped into his car seat properly.
When he was smaller he slept in a bouncer and sling. Obviously checked on him and they were used correctly. But according to this article they shouldn't be used at all for sleep.
DS wouldn't have gone to sleep without them though!

Just wanted to share incase anybody doesn't use all of the car seat straps. Sorry if there's already a thread.

Surely this is just fear mongering around a common sense issue.

Of course babies shouldn't be left unsupervised to sleep in anything they could overheat in or in a position where their airway could be cut off.

Slings in particular are perfectly safe sleep wise providing TICKS is adhered to.

My DS has and does occasionally sleep in his car seat (how exactly are you supposed to stop this mid journey?)

Seems like a typical Daily Mail article riddled with fear and not much else.

I agree. It's just it said about parents only fastening half of the car seat straps, so they can then slip down and the straps cause them to suffocate.
I don't know anyone who doesn't do a car seat up properly, but people somewhere must.
So just wanted to remind(?) people to do up car seats properly Smile

Because of the recent tragic story about the baby dying in a bednest, the DM are suddenly churning out a load of baby danger stories. They had another one about the dangers of co-sleeping. I've noticed that they like to do groups of stories like this.

In that case, ignore me, just scaring everyone too Confused

Ooh, I wasn't trying to be critical of you posting it Hobby Smile

It never hurts to have a reminder to be cautious and sensible but as usual this article seems to take it to extremes!

Just hate the DM and it's "you are all terrible and going to kill your children through your stupid, ignorance" rhetoric!

I agree the Bednest incident has got everyone on high alert- but as tragic as that case is, it's simply down to the product being used against safety recommendations, which can make any product unsafe!

Scaremongering story - it's based on a single American study where 47 babies deaths were looked at. The US has about 4million babies born each year, and scarily 24,000 babies died in the US in 2011 - this makes 47 deaths seem a rather a small number far more will have died due to being in a car crash making being in a car seat in the first far more of a danger.
Yes one death is too many but context makes the story far less scary. It also shows no details as to the circumstances around the deaths and whether or not the seats were used correctly - one was left unsupervised for 11hours which suggests to me they weren't

I'd like to know how you stop a baby from falling asleep in the car Hmm.
