I am well informed and know there are faults on both sides but this is unacceptable.

I'm sorry I'm am not going to rationalise this for you. It is my opinion that it is wrong to shoot a woman in the back whether she is being used or not. If that woman was firing a gun then it would be reasonable, to shoot back, but it is wrong to shoot an unarmed woman in the back. It is my opinion, and I get the sense that we are not going to agree on this.

So a terrorist can morally use a woman with her back to a gun to shield himself from that gun. OK, understood.

The women were there to shield the terrorists. This is a circular argument. The women would not have been there to be shot at if the terrorists hadn't required protection; so the terrorists are responsible for the women being shot.

It is indeed circular with both sides having viable argument(if they diddn't, it wouldn't be circular) which I'd imagine is where we will have to agree to differ.

the israelis wage a terrorist campaign in palestinian occupied territories. they do this to counter the terrorism they are attacked by. They fly fighter jets low in the early hours of the morning. they have a shoot to kill policy. they use assasination. etc etc etc. women and children are killed all the time, tbh i'm surprised that this has warranted reporting: it must be a slow news day.

and israel is a sovereign nation state. it is that that is unforgiveable and shameful.

and why does it feel it can do this, why does it get away with it? because it has the unwavering, blind support of both the USA and of the UK (because we do whatever they do). that is what is really despicable.

And Isreal is touted as being 'the only democratic state in the middle east'
It's only democratic because they ethnically cleansed millions of palestinains in 1948, so they were left with a majority who supports them, and they have huge immihgration of people who only support them.

No return for the millions of Palestinians still living in refugee canps over 50 yrs on, and who still have the keys and deeds to homes they had to flee in 1948, with Isrealis now living in them.

'They' ie Israelis didn't drive the Palestinians out - we did that. Britain controlled part of Palestine before WW2. The UN set up the state of Israel (and weren't the Jews were there before the Muslims, if you go back far enough?).

As for people still living in refugee camps, I don't see any of the surrounding Arab states doing much to help the Palestinians. They'll arm terrorists but they won't help alleviate poverty. We - the nations of the EU - provide aid.

I think shooting anyone in the back is indefensible, especially women and children. The Israeli military do some terrible things. But so do the Palestinian terrorists. I just wish there was an answer to all this.

Britain did control Palestine but we left in 1948 as fed up with all the squabbling, and that's when the Isrealis seized land and villages off Palestinians and millions fled to refugee camps where they're still living.

Arab nations for decades hoped thro wars to gain land and rights back, Isrealis always win as have US backing(crappy potted history history I know but important). They have now all lost hope of this ever happening now. Un resolution from 1949 demands Palestinians right to return to their lands, no one thinks this is ever going to happen now.

So if born in extreme poverty, in a refugee camp, stories of parnts fprced off land (still have pistures and keys), watch parents daily humilaited at checkpoints, no hope no prospects, houses demolished at will etc etc your a 17yr old angry young man, might you not become a terrorist?

Terrorism is wrong. whether by a nation state or individual groups. But sometimes you have to stand back and ask why/ this doesn't justify it, but maybe there is a reason and understanding it can help find the solution.

Palestinians in the northern town of Beit Hanoun say that tank shells struck a residential neighbourhood in the early hours. Rescue workers reported a scene of appalling devastation. They spoke of women and children having been killed as they slept. Television footage showed victims being brought to hospital in their sleeping clothes, some with terrible injuries. Eleven of the dead are from the same family. The Israeli army says that it's still checking the reports, that the Israeli Foreign Minister has already issued a statement saying that while the army try to avoid hitting civilians, as she put it, tragedies happen and she apologised.
