But I don't want to move Callisto! We may well its certainly something we will sit down and seriously consider but its crazy that I would have to move when we are crying out for nurses. W here could I work in Europe? I speaky shakey German at best!!

beckybrastraps · 02/11/2006 16:29

Well you're in a better position than we are

Callisto · 02/11/2006 16:36

The world is your oyster Smurfy. France would be nice and you would pick up the language pretty quickly once you're there (I found the swear words are the easiest to remember!).

expatinscotland · 02/11/2006 16:37

America would take you.

Depending on where you went, you'd be able to buy a detached bungalow.

With cash.

We are about to move (hopefully) and luckily managed to fix our interest rate for the next 10 years @ 5.19%. We think its a pretty good rate to have even if rates do rise or fall we know our commitments won't change. Its also interest only but an offset too so we can actually voluntarily make capital repayments into an seperate account that will reduce the interest owing but also have the option of drawing them back if necessary. There are a lot of mortgages out there and even though we are borrowing a lot we're hoping it will be worth it.

Many people in my profession have to work abroad for a while too - dh had to spend a year in Japan. Some people love it, some hate it, but c'est la vie....

Smurfgirl · 02/11/2006 16:39

Thought about America lots of jobs and easy to get a visa if you are a nurse, hmm. Maybe Canada?

(am crap at French Callisto lived in Belgium for 2 years and don't speak a word - hard to get employed unless you are fluent in nursey French i would imagine)

expatinscotland · 02/11/2006 16:41

You'd make a packet, especially b/c most of the healthcare is private.

Most places offer fixed hours, too, no 24 hour rotas, so it's possible to have a life as well.

Smurfgirl · 02/11/2006 17:40

Hmm. I might come back to you Exp in a few years for advice I love working shifts though

frogs · 02/11/2006 17:53

If only it were just the mortgage costs, though. We've just had a quote from the conveyancing solicitor to do our sale and purchase: several thousand pounds to the solicitor, another thousand or so to the surveyor, a mid five-figure sum to Gordon in bl*dy stamp duty and well over £10K to blasted Foxtons in fees. That's an extra £60K over and above the purchase price of the house.

Owwwwwwwww. I really do not see how the sums can stack up on the Sarah Beeny-type shows once you factor in the tax and fees.

CountessDracula · 02/11/2006 19:04

uwila I agree prices can go up and down which is why I said

Well in the current market at least you gain equity

schneebly · 02/11/2006 19:14

You can get a lot more for your money round our way thank goodness!

\link{http://www.s1homes.com/buying/search/forsale_search_results.cgi?type=All&location=490&sort=da&page=1\here) We are a bit remote though and no good shops!

schneebly · 02/11/2006 19:14

damn this time?

Uwila · 03/11/2006 10:29
