Excellent. Now I can give it to my two year old via a private clinic and not have any guilt it's not Government approved.

Oodear · 29/03/2015 12:56

It's been government approved for over a year, they've been quibbling over prices.

I talked to my HV a few days ago and she wouldn't be drawn into a conversation about it and told me to talk to the nurse or GP at my local surgery. I had talked to my nurse last year when I was trying to decide whether to go ahead and she said she knew nothing about it and couldn't advise. Hopefully now they might be able to recommend a private clinic or perhaps offer the vaccine privately through GPs.

Private clinics have been doing them for a while but about £120 a jab , not easy to find where though.

Does anyone know what the age range it will be offered to is? I think it is a series of three injections, although the older the child the less injections they need.

Oodear · 29/03/2015 16:08

2,4 & 12 months

Overjoyed to hear this this morning. My friend lost her child to meningitis B and an ambulance was called and on route before any Classic meningitis signs appeared. she was simply unwell with a cold and had started to become lethargic and nauseous. By the time the spots appeared she was already in hospital.
my friend says by the time the classic symptoms appeared, it was too late already, it had already taken hold and despite treatment she died a few hours laterSad.

Its been available some while privately as I looked it up about a yr ago but as someone else said it isn't cheap. This is great news.

So glad this vaccine will finally be available to all new babies on the nhs. Ridiculous how long the government and drug companies took to decide on costs.

Oodear · 30/03/2015 14:57

Sad for those who lost babies in the last year Sad

Oodear Based on your More info link, children over 12m wont receive it at all? My Son turns 1 in August and notifications are starting in Sept... Therefore he wont receive it? Am I correct?

WindYourBobbinUp · 30/03/2015 15:32

My DS is 6 months, it looks from the FAQs that he won't be able to get vaccinated? I was hoping there'd be a catch up schedule but looks to be only for 4month olds and younger

Oodear · 30/03/2015 21:09

Just appears to be 2/3/4 m olds.
Anyone else needs to be private.

I work in a travel clinic we do the Men B vaccine. The article basically means any child already here won't be included and have to go private,it starts in September and only newborns or back 4 months which is babies born June onwards.

If people want to go private google masta and the clinic i work for will come up,all nurses are trained more than gp nurses in vaccination injections. Its 2 or 3 injections depending on how old your child is when they start and its £130 per injection, which is alot of money but worth it in my opinion.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 09/04/2015 13:41

130 per injection? when list price is 75 Shock

Oodear · 09/04/2015 18:53

That's pretty much the same everywhere Sad

It's not £75 for private companies to buy it in.

It's over £100

I don't usually write comments, but just wanted to share my experience. One of the children at the nursery had meningitis a few weeks ago but thankfully I had my 2 children vaccinated privately at Cosmopolitan Medical Clinic in Maidstone. Usually my eldest doesn't like doctors, but the nurse was very friendly and the whole experience was very pleasant for us all. I can't praise them enough.
