I wish I hadn't read that. Those poor parents and that poor little baby.

WishIwasanastronaut · 28/03/2015 14:55

Oh good god! That it horrific, tragic, unnecessary and criminal. Sad

EnlightenedOwl · 28/03/2015 15:43

really wish I hadn't read it but it is all over the local press. Those doctors should be struck off or something shouldn't they?

Very very sad. But nothing there that proves the medics were negligent. Yes they tried forceps more often than the guidelines state, but we don't know the whole story yet. Poor poor family

Can you report to get the title changed to warn people. I would hate anyone who's currently pregnant to read that without prior warning.

EnlightenedOwl · 28/03/2015 15:57

done.

Actually it does sound as though they may have been negligent as there were differing reports about how far down the birth canal the baby was.

To put it another way, would you be happy with that doctor delivering your baby now? I'm due to give birth any day now and if I was booked in at Oldham I'd be feeling twitchy and taking not of that doctors name.

Well there has now been a serious case review as reported in the local press.

This is why ladies should not be made to feel guilty, having weighed up the quality of their local maternity services, pre-emptively insisting on a C-section instead.

I did. Midwife in charge on the post-natal ward was extremely unprofessional and rude about my choice.

Given the size of my babies and scandalous poor quality of care cases involving my local maternity unit hitting the national newspapers ever since, I stand by my decision as being the right one to ensure I minimised the risk to myself and my babies.

C-section won't prevent medical/midwifery mistakes (there's a horrific one in the national press about the outcome of a botched use of forceps during a C-section somewhere in the UK) but I personally believe it is less risky than being at the mercy of an understaffed maternity unit or out of hours services once you do get into trouble with a vaginal delivery.
