Actually. Soup, it is much harder to understand. Suppose you know, or even suspect, that a friend of yours has committed a truly horrible crime (such as murder his 16 year old step-sister). You have 3 options:
- Persuade your friend to go to the Police, or go to them yourself (99% of us).
- Do nothing, pretend you know nothing (0.99% of us).
- Help your friend dispose of the body (0.01%).
The original crime was probably committed in a moment of madness, maybe a reaction to the rebuff of a mis-judged sexual advance, that sort of thing: I doubt anyone actually planned to kill this poor child.
But anyone helping to conceal the crime must have done so "in cold blood", having considered and rejected the thought of taking any other course of action. There is an evil in that which might possibly have been lacking in the original crime.
I can just about imagine killing someone in the direst of circumstances (ie to protect DC from attack); but to hack up a child's body, just to protect a mate from bother? No -u-k-n- way!!
