Piffle · 20/10/2006 10:50

Duh she's not getting it for doing anything HE would be getting it
She gets the title by default but I'm sure she has too much class to ever use it

zippitippitoes · 20/10/2006 10:58

I think he has the potential to "make a difference2..he does seem to have a natural skill with children and I hope his soccer schools come to fruition..

and i hope he decides to see his future in that kind of role and uses his money to good effect..then when he looks back on what he is done he may deserve recognition for his achievements in all areas.

oh pph i am glad you're back

I didn't like the Q either for purely alliterative reasons

plus it reminds me of my joyous birth experience!

CountessDracula · 20/10/2006 11:01

ffs @ Beckhams

princessmel · 20/10/2006 11:01

I think he deserves it more than some other people who are made 'Sirs'. And more importantly he is georgous!!!

Freckle · 20/10/2006 11:05

At least Sirs Charlton, Hurst and Moore managed to bring back the world cup. Did Becks manage any trophies at all??

If his soccer schools work out and help thousands of kids and if he does it all altruistically rather than earning millions from it, then perhaps he may be entitled to some sort of honour, but for what he has achieved to date he has been amply rewarded financially.

CountessDracula · 20/10/2006 11:05

pass the bucket
he is vile

zippitippitoes · 20/10/2006 11:08

I'm sure there are so many other people working steadfastly in the public interest who are more deserving..do you have to be a celebrity to get a knighthood? It's so tenuous

OP posts:
PrincessPeaHead · 20/10/2006 11:10

yes you do have to be a celebrity

because tony and cherie are star-struck celebrity arse lickers and want to be invited to other people's villas and parties when tone retires.

pathetic

FrogDeLaLune · 20/10/2006 12:53

Can I have the bucket after you CountessDracula? (After it's been washed out of course
I don't find him attractive at all... too squeaky clean little boyish.

KenningtonKitty · 20/10/2006 13:28

To use a phrase my mother used to call me .....perhaps she should be Lady Muck !

Now, now girls. Saucers of milk all round. The link said that it was to do with his role in the Olympic bid. I saw a documentary on him once and he seemed like a nice enough bloke . Yes Posh has some issues but we brits do love to hate a success don't we? I don't think she seems bitchy or out to offend.

Also - nicely put Kama, you have a good point.

edam · 20/10/2006 13:47

Oh, that 'Britain suffers from tall poppy syndrome' stuff makes me want to barf. Thank God we live in a country where people don't worship bloody VIPs uncritically. I'd hate to live somewhere where you couldn't take the piss out of Donald effing Trump or equally silly sods.

The papers will call Mrs B Lady Victoria because none of them, even the broadsheets, understand the difference between 'daughter of an Earl/Marquis/Duke' and 'married to a knight/baronet/peer'.

MadamePlatypus · 20/10/2006 13:48

I agree with Freckle. He might deserve an honour in a few decades time if he does alot of good work, but so far he hasn't really achieved much for his country (compared to other less high profile sports people), and he has been adequately paid as a footballer.

Caribbeanqueen · 20/10/2006 13:51

PPH, I think if I saw VB in a supermarket, I could think of plenty of things to call her

screamsprout · 20/10/2006 13:53

Interesting that the idea has been leaked. I think they are seeing what the public response would be.

TwigTwoolett · 20/10/2006 13:56

Kama ... she has knowingly gone after a stick-thin figure .. she had a perfectly fabulous figure before .. but oh no she has decided that only the unobtainable by most, looking like you're totally ill figure is the right one for her to project

I have no sympathy for her .. nor for any other adult that professes an eating disorder which has developed at this late stage in their life

not everything is a piggin' illness .. some things are vaccuous attempts to look THIN

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 20/10/2006 13:57

Well I'm all in favour. The honours system is a whole load of bollocks anyway, Lord and Lady and Dame and Sir and all that left-over feudalist crap - the more yobbos like the Beckhams they can give these silly titles to, to undermine the whole thing, the better.

I await with eagerness the announcement of Dames Jordan, Jade and that retarded slapper with the pointy noise who was on Celebrity Big Brother.

And Sir Wayne and Lady Rooney - excellent.

TwigTwoolett · 20/10/2006 13:58

and yes I agree that eating disorders amongst children / pubescent / teens that may then afflict them through adult life are illnesses

but media-obsessed vacuous women who strive to be thin to get more press coverage make me want to scream

how dare media put them up as something we should seek to aspire too

YUK!

notasheep · 20/10/2006 14:08

Vacuous-great word

danceswiththedevil · 20/10/2006 15:38

Edam - I agree with what you are saying we shouldn't worship VIPs uncritically, absolutely right but there is a culture of disdain for those who succeed. The same culture that makes parents play down their children's successes and makes people ashamed of what you have. We have private health care because my husband works damn hard for a company who includes it in his benefit package. When I went to have a caesarean (for medical reasons) we were chatting to the midwife and she said 'oh you don't seem like private patients.' I'm sure there are obnoxious idiots out there but you are made to feel if you 'have' stuff you need to justify it and even feel guilty about it. I'm not articulating this well as ds is harassing me but I hope you understand what I'm getting at.

SecondhandRose · 20/10/2006 15:42

Perhaps they'll just give him an OBE. Pleeeeassse.

zippitippitoes · 20/10/2006 15:43

He already has something like that..an mbe?

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 20/10/2006 15:44
