Seems to be so many of these just lately. Wonder if we just hear more about it these days?

soft targets

The whole Yew Tree operation and the success of subsequent court cases is apparently proving to be quite a motivation for people to report historical as well as more recent offences. The notification rate for rape and other sexual violence has gone up significantly. Often the victims are satisfied to tell their story, have it investigated and be taken seriously rather than hinge everything on a successful prosecution. I think it's progress.

Agree cogito and you make sense.

It is progress.
These crimes are horrific for the victims and I'm glad they are coming forward and accusing and laying the blame on the perpetrators.

We have had wave after wave of accusations of priests in Ireland, and it seemed never ending, but I think people get courage if things are handled correctly, and victims find resolution for their anger and eventual peace after exposing the abuse, and the abuser, in a climate where they are listened to and treated respectfully.

Maybe in the uk the perpetrators are media figures whereas in Ireland the priests were the ones with the access to children.

Soft targets? I don't think so. More that some people in power or famous have felt invincible for far too long and have been allowed to get away with it (not specifically commenting on this case though, I have no thoughts on whether this bloke is guilty or not)
