any dog can breed with any bitch. All domestic dogs are the same species, they can interbreed and have fertile offspring. They are different breeds not different species. IYSWIM.

Rather like people are all the same species, Homo Sapiens, but we have different 'races' who may look a bit different but who can obviously 'interbreed' (horrid word I know) and have fertile offspring.

And Hybrid Vigour, which comes of haveing a good old genetic mixup, if fantastic for survival!

exactement MB. Mongrels are the brightest too.

I wonder if we will hear of every single dog attack everyday for the next few months now.
Amazing how the media have brought this case to light over a month after it happened.

My PIL's have a rottweiler. He's 13 stone and not so far of the size of a Donkey. He is huge to say the least. My dd who is now 3 has grown up around him.
Now my PIL's have quite a big garden. The house sits right in the middle of it and they have 3 entrances to it. Over the last 2 years the children on the street have decided and their parents that it is quite ok for them to walk into their garden if they kick their ball over.
Now the dog is not vicious at all. When you go into the house he jumps up at you to say hello and then leaves you alone.
Because of the children walking in and out of the garden, my PILs have had to put locks on all gates, a door bell on each gate and beware of the dog signs on each side of the property. They also have to let the dog out into the garden in between school hours and late at night. School holidays are a nightmare because the kids play out all day.
This and continuous requests to the childrens parents has not stopped them still coming into the garden.
If one day they did come in and the dog was outside and he jumped at them, then what would happen? The child would most likely end up being knocked over due to the sheer size of him.
My guess is that the child would be upset and end up telling their parents who would then make a complaint and most likely result in the dog being put down.

I think it is a real shame that because of the odd horrific attack that all dogs or all dogs of a few certain breeds have to be deemed dangerous. They are not.

God I'm horrified yellowfeathers. Going into a dog's garden is trespassing on their territory and asking for trouble. Even if the dog in question is not a rottweiler.

Agree we don't need these poxy breeds, roll on mongrelism.

Yellow, maybe your parents should contact their councillor, or local anti-social behaviour co-ordinator, to point out that these kids are repeatedly trespassing despite every attempt your parents have made to stop them. Then at least if one of the stupid little brats does get knocked over, you'll have it on record. Maybe send formal letters to their parents warning them off the garden and keep copies yourselves.

Thing is, you could have a situation where a child is 'dared' to go into the garden and out of fear of humiliation tries it...
