Purely economically, I reckon the rest of Britain would be better off without Scotland, so my vote would be YES.

I have 3 Russian friends who are voting tomorrow. and about 30 English - who live in Scotland. its bonkers

MrsCakesPrecognition · 17/09/2014 22:16

I probably would have voted no. However the use of "project fear" to silence challenges to the yes campaign; the suggestions that Scotland is more moral than England; and comments such as that expressed by one MNer (that Scotland will be like an abused child applauding the just meted out to the paedophile England), have all lead me to think that I might vote yes and help Scotland go its own way.

Would vote no and personally think we should ALL have the right to vote on this, not just those living in Scotland!

What astonishes me is how civilised it all is. When the Irish wanted to leave the Union it was all rebellion, revolution, civil war, brains on walls and blood in the gutters. For near on a century, and the issue still hasn't been finalised, only held in abeyance. The scotch and the sassenachs though, it's chinwagging and chatting. Not a single trigger pulled anywhere. That's quite remarkable, on a worldwide perspective. Like the velvet revolution.

"the poor of glasgow have more in common for example with the poor of bradley or sunderland than they do with the wealthy political class of scotland. '

Of indeed the poor of Lambeth or Hackney,

And it is a very good point.

Why is it bonkers that people who live in the country get to vote?

Swift if a wife wants a divorce, do you think a husband should get to say 'No' and make her stay?

and I'm a (unable to vote) NO voter.

LiverpoolLou · 18/09/2014 17:30

I think it depends how long they've lived in the country. My friend has barely had time to take her coat off. I've been on holiday to places longer than she's been there. It is bonkers that she gets a say in a decision that will affect that country forever meanwhile Scottish people currently living south of the border have no say in the future of their country.

treaclesoda · 18/09/2014 17:36

I think we're economically stronger with Scotland. I'd vote no.

TheHoneyBadger · 19/09/2014 11:33

how does everyone feel about the result?

LiverpoolLou · 19/09/2014 13:53

I thought I wasn't bothered but when I saw the results this morning I burst into tears of relief.Blush

i totally 'get' the emotion behind the yes vote but i wish it could be channeled into a kingdom wide fight for more equality and a less eton boys club holding of power.

i feel a bit worried because i've seen scottish friends facebook pages who were in the yes camp go up a notch today into really quite... derisive anti-english and nationalist vibes. i wish labour could get it's shit together and go back to being a left party that genuinely supported the working classes so people had something to unite behind again without having to resort to nationalism or race politics.

Yes the English are singing from the same hymn sheet as the Scots! We don't want the Eton boys club either!!
