Little boy has been removed from hospital by his parents

He is very sick, needs constant treatment. His parents have taken him to France.

I don't understand why the hospital didn't notice or alert the police for 6 hours.

The police won't comment on the parents being Jehovah's Witnesses.

It sounds wrong when the statement said he was removed without consent. The child is theirs, should be allowed to be in charge of him, but of course it is he that will lose his life if not cared for and that isn't in his best interests necessarily.

I hope he is found and can be cured.

"i just wanted to get the money but they prevented that happening because the police in spain are involved"

You think a cash raising mortgage would not be a quick thing in Spain Ici? I have no idea.

WetAugust · 31/08/2014 11:56

It was Pontypines who claimed the hospital had to follow their blanket policy. It was actually disputing that.

You should watch the entire 10 minute video and listen to how the father says he was treated.

Having has my own battles with the NHS over my sons care I recognise a lot of what he has reported.

He has run himself ragged trying to identify and obtain the right care for his son and according to him the doctors have not even has the courtesy to reply to his requests for information.
When he complained they threatened to take his son away he claims.

Many people will be sitting with their jaw bed dropping thinking that that could not happen in a UK hospital. having experienced similar myself I believe him.

Me too. I have a disabled child.

It would be interesting to know which of us on the thread have had what kind of dealings with the NHS (I'm not asking).

ArsenicyOldFace · 31/08/2014 12:02

Not in a conspiracy or grudge sense, just close enough experience to know that it is a flawed system like any other.

WetAugust · 31/08/2014 12:07

If you want to know the reasons the family fled the father spells it out in detail on the 10 minute long Youtube video

What he claims he has been subjected to is a utter disgrace.

Meanwhile PC Plod has just been on the radio saying that the extradition will continue and if the family fight extradition they will delaying the process.

PC Plod is also sending a couple of officers to Spain. Why he needs to send more than one defeats me but I suppose one officer would get lonely propping up the bar in the evening on his own. much better to get a bit of sun bathing in with a mate at your side.

this episode just highlights what's wrong with this country. They chase unnecessarily after a soft target while ignoring the 1400 abuse cases that took place elsewhere.

I am so angry that I will be writing to my MP about this.

One other point, related to the slurring and manipulation MrsDV and others identified yesterday.

I tthink that more than a third (maybe even half? not sure ) of the adult UK has been arrested at some time and been booked at a police station which involves photos ('mugshots') and fingerprints being taken. A lot of arrests are for minor offences including driving and white collar crime. I'm not sure if they delete the photos if someone is subsequently cleared or no prosecution goes ahead.

Is it my imagination or was such a photo used by the police in this hunt?

Arsey, as I said on the Chat thread, I have been scared of NHS Dr's too, and kind of did what this family did. I did it in the UK with private Dr's who work in the NHS and with children who were not inpatients so it was easier for me to access a second opinion, the NHS team put up a fight at first though. The tests eventually showed the NHS team were well off the mark and the private team were right.

ArsenicyOldFace · 31/08/2014 12:15

So you're not in the 'doctors are infallible' camp then? Wink

The same sort of thing went on in the US not that long ago.

"If you want to know the reasons the family fled the father spells it out in detail on the 10 minute long Youtube video"

I'm really sorry- but no he doesn't. He says that they were threatened with an emergency protection order if they asked any questions about their son's treatment. If this is true, it is outrageous. But it is also wrong- the hospital could not get an a order on those grounds. So either it was am empty threat, or there is more to this than we know. Please remember, we only have one side of the story.

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 12:19

"So you're not in the 'doctors are infallible' camp then? "

Is anyone?

ArsenicyOldFace · 31/08/2014 12:19

Please remember, we only have one side of the story.

True.

Also remember they wouldn't have felt able to wait and react to developments one by one because they were aware that a civil order or injunction was a possibility that would cut off their options fast. He is specific that the spectre of that prevented open communication with the medical team.

ArsenicyOldFace · 31/08/2014 12:23

Is anyone?

Bit hyperbolic of me Smile

But people do want to believe that mistakes are rare and that care is usually optimal.

WetAugust · 31/08/2014 12:29

so doctors can threat then can the Hakluyt if their threats are only empty?

I can see which camp as you put it that you appear to fall into

I have met some truly incompetent NHS doctors. I was told they were incompetent by the private doctors I had to pay to sort out the mess the NHS ones caused.

I believe everything that father stated on his video. It all rings true because I experienced very similar NHS apathy to treatment and downright threats when I tried to question them

There is a certain type of doctor who believes they are infallible and adopts a very arrogant attitude in their dealings with patients.

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 12:29

"But people do want to believe that mistakes are rare and that care is usually optimal."

Well, some people do. Other people want to believe that mistakes happen in every case and doctors are evil bastards whose sole aim is to snatch children and forcibly treat them against their parents' wishes.

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 12:31

"so doctors can threat then can the Hakluyt if their threats are only empty?"

Oh, don't be silly.

ArsenicyOldFace · 31/08/2014 12:34

You think? Maybe I've been lucky not to encounter them. You could well be right. There are loons for most topics.

Hurr1cane · 31/08/2014 12:34

The father didn't want the treatment that would leave his son brain damaged, he wanted a different treatment which he was prepared to pay for.

So the father was refusing a certain treatment.

For this, they could possibly get a court order.

FairPhyllis · 31/08/2014 12:34

It's a little bit like the case with the little boy called Neon whose mother took off with him. And the issue in that case was radiotherapy too. Except the parents in this case seem a bit more clued up and are not by any means proposing a snake oil type treatment.

Arrest and extradition do seem very heavy handed when on the face of it it doesn't seem they have done anything illegal.

It makes you wonder how much real power of consent you have as the parent of a terminally ill child, or how much leeway you have to choose a short but good quality life for them over a treatment that could leave them with pretty bad brain damage. Many adults would surely choose that for themselves, after all.

It all seems very odd and information seems to have been released in a way that is intended to smear the parents.

Hurr1cane · 31/08/2014 12:36

He did explain that. It was quite obvious.

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 12:38

You may have encountered them, you won't know until you question them what they are capable of.

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 12:39

"So the father was refusing a certain treatment.

But that's not what he said in the video. He said they were threatened with a court order for any questioning of the treatment suggested for their son.
