Little boy has been removed from hospital by his parents

He is very sick, needs constant treatment. His parents have taken him to France.

I don't understand why the hospital didn't notice or alert the police for 6 hours.

The police won't comment on the parents being Jehovah's Witnesses.

It sounds wrong when the statement said he was removed without consent. The child is theirs, should be allowed to be in charge of him, but of course it is he that will lose his life if not cared for and that isn't in his best interests necessarily.

I hope he is found and can be cured.

They've been arrested. On what fucking grounds?!

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:24

That is an intelligent man amenable to reason Pontipine (and willing to pay for private treatment). Assuming he has not invented a whole load of medical protocols there, someone has massively fucked up. This could have been resolved in the UK without drama.

WetAugust · 30/08/2014 23:24

The actions of Hampshire police have made me very angry.

The parents are now under arrest.

Their son has been taken from them and placed in a Malaga hospital

They are suggesting that the parents neglected the child according to Sky

How the hell does that help an already distressed family?

But Hampshire police now get a trip to Spain to determine whether any offences have been committed

WTAF!

Leave them alone.

Or perhaps I need to think this through but what the police are doing feels very wrong to me

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:25

On the basis of the European arrest warrant

mrsmaturin · 30/08/2014 23:26

WHY have the parents been arrested? What crime has been committed?

SeattleGraceMercyDeath · 30/08/2014 23:26

How awful for that poor family. My thoughts are with them and everyone else who has been in similar hideous circumstances.

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:27

They mean medical neglect Wet. It was a legal manoeuvre so that they could hold them.

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:28

Hope you're ok MrsDV

WetAugust · 30/08/2014 23:30

quite happy go debate the flaws of the EU arrest warrant but on a different thread please

Have just wTched the Hampshire police grandstanding at a totally unnecessary Press conference they have just held. The officer seemed quite disappointed that he didn't get asked a lot of questions at the end. meanwhile what about this child's right go privacy. Police and other public bodies loved to hide behind the Data Protection Act When it suits them. they gave certainly not considered this family's privacy.

I am utterly disgusted

kippersmum · 30/08/2014 23:30

My heart goes out to the entire family. I hope that Ashya has his Mummy & Daddy next to him soon

Has it got a flaw?

I was talking about the behaviour of Hampshire Police.

Perhaps you could write me a list of what I may say and on which thread?

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:37

WTF was all that bullshit about?

The difficulty of remembering to pack travel adapters, probably Hmm

You were spot on.

werenotreallyhere · 30/08/2014 23:37

This has really made me quite cross, I don't care who is right and who is wrong, on the video Ashya looked very comfortable being held by his dad, he needs his parents with him. I hope he has his older siblings by his side and they're not with the police as well.

WetAugust · 30/08/2014 23:41

No need to be arsey. the EU arrest warrant allows a UK citizen to be extradited to another member state that does not have the law habeus corpus and could therefore be incarcerated without having been charged and brought in front of a Court. Habeus Corpus is a central tenet if our legal system but not of some other EU countries.

I expect the Police just fancied a nice all expenses paid trip to the Costa del Sol rather than a weekend in Rochdale

IPityThePontipines · 30/08/2014 23:42

Mrs Dv I thought my post was perfectly clear. If a child has been withdrawn from.hospital against medical advice, there is a standard policy the hospital has to follow, to ensure that all children are protected. All children should be entitled to the same level of protection, regardless of their medical diagnosis.

If the opposite happened, i.e, hospital policy was to take no action if a child was withdrawn from hospital against medical advice, as parents always know best, there would certainly be situations where children suffer.

I don't see what is so controversial about that.

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:49

Hardly matters Wet. I meant the way in which they issued the warrant while simultaneously anouncing they probably wouldn't charge them with the offence named on the warrant.

They seemed to think that made them sound fluffier.

WetAugust · 30/08/2014 23:50

think about it Pontypines. the UK hospital will have met these parents on many occasions and will have had plenty of talks with them regarding this child's treatment so the hospital will know that he parents are sensible people who have their sons best interest at heart and not the sort of parent that would neglect or endanger the child.

So this is just a very disgraceful action by the hospital and a total over reaction by the police.

the JW angle has just been a red herring

The real questions that should be being asked is why the parents feel they have to take him to Spain for treatment.

ArsenicyOldFace · 30/08/2014 23:51

(and we can't be as superior about Habeas Corpus as we used to be)

That poor boy, and this helps him how? slow clap to the police and NHS! How much has this cost the tax payer?

WetAugust · 31/08/2014 00:12

I hope these parents will one day sue the ass of all these agencies in the UK that have caused them such distress in an already stressful situation

I sincerely hope that common sense prevails and this very sick child us not returned involuntarily to a hospital in the UK that has absolutely nothing to offer him.

5madthings · 31/08/2014 00:23

I am disgusted by the reporting of this case and the actions of Hampshire police force.

His parent's have done nothing wrong and are wanting to peruse other treatments, ashya is clearly well cared for and his parent's are doing what they think is right.

Its bloody barbaric that a small boy is in hospital without his parent's, I hope they are released asap so they can be with him.

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 00:23

I know some JW's they do sue, I don't think this is the last the NHS and police will hear from this family over this issue. I hope this boy gets his chance at life with this treatment his parents wanted for him in Spain and show that NHS Dr up, as it sounds like his ego was the reason this has happened. Dad showed the Dr that the Dr may not be right and there may be a chance for his ds.

Blondieminx · 31/08/2014 00:28

That poor little boy. I hope his parents are released ASAP to be by his side. What a mess.

Thanks MrsDeVere xx
