I hope they don't find anything.
It feels like everyone I thought was nice when I was a kid were predatory paedophiles. Please let this be a mistake.

I really hope it's not true Sad

Of course we all want to see justice done in every case where abuse has occurred - whether or not the perpetrator is Joe Bloggs down the road who seemed like such a nice guy to his friends and neighbours, or is a rich and famous celeb who we all thought we "knew" through their on screen persona and publicised good deeds.

That said, I really hate the fact that celebs are outed publicly as soon as there is an allegation (all of which of course have to be followed up/investigated). I hate the trial by media thing, the "no smoke without fire" suspicions, and everyone with their gut feelings or urban rumours of what has been said by a friend of a friend of someone who once met them! Mud sticks. And I am sure there are going to be cases of innocent people being found guilty and that would be as tragic as the reverse.

I grew up as a tot in the early 70s, listening to my parents' tapes of CR and RH, and will be gutted if this turns out to be true as I was with RH.

According to the police, other people have cantacted them today. regarding CF. it's doesn't surprise me one bit.

ACM88 · 16/08/2014 10:28

When operation yewtree started there was always rumours of Rolf Harris and Cliff. If anyone is that interested, you can find all sorts of stories online about Cliff picking out young boys from Elm Guesthouse.

I'm afraid to say it, but I think there will be a mound of dirt to come out. He knew his house would be raided which is why a statement was so quickly released whilst he was abroad. The media would not have been there, if the police weren't certain they would find something. It's been a long time coming...

wannaBe · 16/08/2014 10:34

The reporting of this is despicable. There has been no arrest, no charge, have we got to a stage where all someone needs to do is name a celebrity and they will be publiclly named and shamed before any evidence has been found?
If someone has committed a historical crime it should be dealt with through proper channels. This is not the way.

ACM88 · 16/08/2014 10:50

wannabe I agree! but I also think this must have been going on a long time before it appeared in the press, I don't think for a second the police would go about this investigation, which is so well known, without following proper protocol, we the general public won't know all the details, possibly never.

This man is a huge huge star, I've never been a fan, but undoubtedly millions are, so the media and police wouldn't name him lightheartedly, and he wouldn't have been kept in dark about house raid.

The truth will out, I don't believe the police have no evidence at all, I think they have tonnes. On sky news they said a convoy of police cars left sunningdale, each packed full of evidence. Whether it's related to this crime from 30yrs ago, or something else, who knows, but I trust more is going on behind the scenes than we will know. Because of that, it looks like it's been handled badly...

MuttonCadet · 16/08/2014 10:56

Is it only me that thinks the press were alerted to bring other victims forward?

Bakeoffcakes · 16/08/2014 11:15

I think that too Mutton. I don't think the police would have found much incriminating evidence during this search, but what the search has done is meant others can come forward and know they aren't the first to do so.

More victims came forward when Rolf Harris and Max Clifford were initially arrested, So it's a good strategy IMO.

As far as people complaining about all of this speculation. I'm afraid a lot of people are just glad it's come out at last. My DH works in the entertainment business and he's been told by many people that CR, Rolf Harris, Max Clifford and JS were sexual predators. It's not just one or two people gossiping, it's people changing work arrangements and plans to ensure young boys/girls/men and women weren't left on their own with these people.

wow. I have to say I am amazed how many people on all the threads about this stuff have mentioned CR, even the gossip, a friend of a friend. It does seem like an open secret.

acm wow again

HappydaysArehere · 17/08/2014 10:08

My head is in my hands. Can't bear it.

ilovechristmas1 · 24/08/2014 20:16

what happened to the CR thread in chat ?? thanks

BabeRuthless · 25/08/2014 10:24

It's reached 1000 posts and is now full. There'll either be a new one or people will gravitate over to this one.

truthseeker2014 · 25/08/2014 12:59

I'm writing this in response to a comment made by GarlicAugustus in the Cliff Richard thread recently removed from the Chat section of the forum. According to GarlicAugustus, it has been PROVEN that children were taken from a Richmond care home to the Elm Guest House in order to be abused.

This is frankly rubbish. It has been ALLEGED (by a man with a conviction for fraud) that children were taken from a Richmond care home to the Elm Guest House in order to be abused, but it has only been proven in the minds of internet conspiracy theorists in the court of internet opinion. Which isn't, of course, to say that the allegations are false (even though Mary Moss denies that Chris Fay ever worked for NAYPIC), just that they should be treated with caution.

Incidentally, I would be interested to know why you think Geoffrey Dickens would hand his explosive dossier containing information about the Elm Guest House to Leon Brittan, who was named on Fay's list?

AnyoneForTARDIS · 25/08/2014 17:31

Just saw thread on Chat was full.
