What do you think of Jonathon Ross's pay packet?

Not skilled enough to provide a link, but in an article in a BBC in house magazine, some big wig was saying it's a disgrace that JR gets so much money in a time of redundancy.

I love JR, and I think his pay is shocking, but even when he jokes about it on his radio show, I don't seem to mind! If it was someone else I would find it really vulgar.

What do you all think?

how much does he get then?

scotchick · 17/09/2006 11:02

They offered him an £18million package to stay with the BBC

Yep, good luck to him, very down to earth guy and Ive been watching him since his first shows on tv back in the early 80's so he has been entertaining us for years. I like him a lot.

JoolsToo · 17/09/2006 11:04

I think it is immoral when people are losing their jobs.

Is anyone worth that pay packet?

Frizbe · 17/09/2006 11:05

wow! that's a lotta money....not sure if he's worth quite that much, although I do like his shows......I guess your not going to turn it down if your offered it right, I bloomin wouldn't.

suzywong · 17/09/2006 11:06

What would be the knock on effect to the BBC and the listening public if he didn't accept it and flounced?
Gnat's chuff anyone, I mean really?

scotchick · 17/09/2006 11:06

No I don't think anyone is 'worth' that kind of money. How could you be? Although as I said, I love JR, I do wonder if he gave a thought to people being made redundant while he was getting that kind of dosh.

I sometimes think of people like Posh n' Becks, (and many others) and wonder how they can reconcile earning silly money with people who have nothing. Like buying their children outrageous presents etc.

suzywong, C4 offered the £18m first, then the BBC matched it as they wanted to keep him.

oh I see.....but on in terms of the function and purpose of the BBC would it really make a difference worth 18mill of license payers' money if he went to Channel 4, I mean would the BBC's world collapse?

scotchick · 17/09/2006 11:10

I know what you mean, I guess they must have thought it was worth it in the long term, but my tiny non-media brain can't understand that.

He gets paid £500,000 a year for the radio show.

Ah well I dont think Posh and Becks are entertaining at all. The degree that they flash their cash is obscene and totally over the top. They are not worth a fart in an envelope.

pointydog · 17/09/2006 11:13

Yes, he's obscenely overpaid but that's the industry he works in. Madness. Makes a mockery in a way of all the fundraising programmes, concerts etc that celebs/stars do on TV, 'cause all they need to do is write big personal cheques and be done with it. Instead, they are paid millions to exhort punters to cough up £20.

scotchick · 17/09/2006 11:21

Pointy dog - good point! How can JR sit there at Children in Need and ask us to give a tenner!

Bizarre world!

Posh n' Becks, yes, they are so flash with their cash. It's awful. Imagine giving Brooklyn diamond earrings for his 4/5th birthday!
