I saw this on the news this morning and thought of you. It's quite a damning report.

Saw this this am too and was really shocked. I knew it was a problem but not as big as this. Our autistic foster son goes to a specialist autistic unit within a special school and is absolutely thriving but he is so so lucky to be there.

When is the government going to realise that their inclusion policy is failing so many more children, not just the autistic ones?

Jimjams2 · 16/09/2006 19:25

Made me realise how lucky we are as welll (ds1 at excellent sld/pmld school).

I saw this and thought of youJimjams

about time it was made public.

The government mouth was busy blaming the mainstream schols while strangly not mentioning that we don't have enough money to support kids in MS!

He was mouthing off about the need for 1 to 1 support and 'santuary' rooms for kids and how ms should be providing it. And I kept shouting, 'Where the hell is the money for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

UrsulatheSeaWitch · 16/09/2006 19:44

Have you all read "he felt useless" the link at the bottom?

It's heartbreaking.

sanctuary rooms = pmsl- in schools that are bursting at the seams. How about they open some specially designed schools- like ds1's with a sensory room, a dark room, a sand and splash, student kitchens and a hydro pool. Oh they had those once upon a time, they were called special schools.

Honest to god jimjams, I was swearing at the TV. Thank god the kids were elsewhere at the time.

FFS out sn department is bursting at the seams at break and lunchtime as it is....often with kids who's behaviouris so extreem it would be the very last place I'd send a kid with asd!

I wanted to put the guy in our school for 1 day, just one fucking day and ask him how we are supposed to do it.

We have 12 kids entering year 7 on the spectrum. How many are statemneted.NONE!!!!!! FFS we have no support for them None!

It is sinfu;l, wicked and fucking cruel.

and this arse was blaming the schools. Yes, we just love to see poor bloody 11 year olds going into a frenzy becayse the room is too loud. It is how we get out jollies.

I agree that more money needs to be put into schools for these lovely kids. I work with kids in a specialist school alot of them have ASD and other associated problems and some can be extremely violent and most are low level. There is never enough money. I also think all kids with ASD shouldnt necessarily be bunched together because it just isnt that simple.
