Big confession: I think Tony Blair is great and wish he wasn't going - am I COMPLETELY on my own?

Sorry, I know it's really fashionable to hate him but I think he's been a great PM

I think he's destroyed the labour party tbh.

Not that I care that much. I was never a labour woman myself. But that he has moved our society to the right, is a very very bad thing imo.

SoMuchToBats · 04/10/2006 12:01

My late uncle used to refer to him as "The Toothy Messiah" LOL

Northerner · 04/10/2006 12:05

I like Tony Blair too, also like Gordon Brown. Been a labour vote all my life, they are the best party for teh job.

David Cameron nice chap but not PM material, and where are there policies?

HumphreyPETERCUSHINGCushion · 04/10/2006 12:11

Very disappointed in Tony Blair.

I voted for him initially, and was very optimistic.

Actually thought he would improve this country, and believed he would be a strong and thoughtful leader.

Now feeling like I was very naive and gullible.

His failure to do anything that has vaguely benefitted my children's education, plus his simpering labrador-like devotion to President Bush over the war on Iraq, has been more than enough for me to be delighted to see him go.

Not convinced Gordon Brown is much of a suitable successor either though.

CorpseBride · 04/10/2006 13:33

History will judge Blair harshly for having had such a large majority and yet failing to make any real changes.

Gordon Brown is a financial control freak.

I'd say good riddance but the competition isn't any good either. I would never have believed that I would become so disinterested in politics

EmmyLou · 04/10/2006 14:02

The polls and the media put too much empahsis on popularity. Don't really feel as if I want to like a politician. Agree with, or respect perhaps. They try too hard to be liked these days. Too much visual media coverage.

Don't want someone who is popular on a personal level to run the country, but someone who is clever, can do the job and accept responsibility. Feel TB falls down at some of these hurdles.

GoingQuietlyMad · 05/10/2006 11:32

I like Blair as well, but I do wonder if this is just because I am gullible and a sucker for his personal charisma rather than anything concrete.

For those who hate him this will prob be hilarious - charisma, what charisma....?

JoolsTOOOOOOOoooooooooo · 05/10/2006 11:34

ANYTHING CONCRETE? (oops)

try his concrete feet - I will not resign, I am not going, I'll go when I'm ready

there are a few people in the Labour party with concrete feet

GoingQuietlyMad · 05/10/2006 11:35

On the same note, I don't like Gordon Brown. I can't really put my finger on why, but it seems to be something to do with the way his mouth droops when he stops talking.

Please don't flame me, serious people.

GoingQuietlyMad · 05/10/2006 11:39

Sorry, was being flippant which I realise doesn't read very well, looking back.

You are right, even though I like Blair, he should have gone sooner. I think the reason he hasn't is his intense personal dislike of Brown, which clearly isn't right for the country.

There is a serious point in there - I do think that Labour will sink under Brown because he hasn't got the personal charisma to appeal to the floating voter like Blair had.

saadia · 05/10/2006 11:45

I wouldn't have any problem with Blair if it wasn't for Iraq. We should not underestinate what the US/UK have done there. It is now a kind of hell for the people living there and Blair has to take some of the responsibility for that.

Clarinet60 · 18/10/2006 12:57

I've always like Tony too.
I like Gordon when he's 'off duty', but it gives me the willies to think of him as PM. I don't exactly know why.

I agree, Tonys good - Gordon will do a good job, but not sure he has the charm for diplomacy. David Cameron - FGS - he is just awful, a complete slimbag. I hate how he tries to be 'one of the people' he just a smug etonion.

Got to say, that although there have been things that he has done that I haven't agreed with, I do like him.
I think he will be missed, and when he is gone, people might well be able to see his good points. Atm his image is so tarnished, but we will see what the history books say

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 18/10/2006 20:22

I love him.

GreenSepticStumps · 18/10/2006 20:24

It's the illegal wars that have done it for me, I'm afraid. Big turn-off.

GreenSepticStumps · 18/10/2006 20:25

Genocide tends to put me off my breakfast. Just a personal quirk of mine.

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 18/10/2006 20:43

Whereas I am terribly turned on by genocide obviously! (But then the matter of defining matters involving Iraq and similar as genocide is surely a debate for another thread...)

cocopopshater · 18/10/2006 20:56

Goodness, it is the day for embarrassing political revelations on MN. Tony-fanciers, perhaps you would like to join us ex Thatch voters for some therapy on the other thread?

Is there anyone who didnt vote for any of the last three Prime Ministers?

cocopopshater · 18/10/2006 20:57

And was anyone mad enough to vote Thatch, John Major, Blair????

Callisto · 19/10/2006 12:33

Oh FGS - the war in Iraq is now genocide is it? The definition of genocide is: 'Deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group.'

And I am not at all ashamed to say that I voted for Margaret Thatcher. She was a very good leader for many years - you lot have got sucked in by the Labour spin machine I'm afraid.

ShinyHappyPurpleSeveredHeads · 19/10/2006 12:37

Forget all that.. and watch this Scroll down to the YouTube box and switch your speakers on...

Greensleeves · 19/10/2006 12:39

Sorry Shiny, that was a bit rude of me .

I wasn't meaning to insult you, I'm just not keen on TB.
