Leaving education role, moving to chief whip I think

OP posts:
harrietspy · 15/07/2014 09:46

First reaction: fabulous. Second: oh shit. Gove was easy to hate and stank of trust fund. It's when they look superficially reasonable that they stay electable.

Having said that, lots of us in education will be doing a happy dance today.

ajandjjmum · 15/07/2014 09:47

Just wondering how you vote 'very strongly'? Surely it's either yes or no? Unless you're saying she campaigned strongly Bigfoot?

BigfootFiles · 15/07/2014 09:50

ajandjjmum - "How is the voting record decided?
The voting record is not affected by what MPs and Peers have said, only how they voted in relation to that topic in the house - i.e. "aye" or "no". Votes on each topic were examined, and strength of support determined based on these votes. Follow the "votes" link next to each topic for details. Additionally, in many votes, MPs and Peers are told how to vote ('whipped') by their parties. Since the Whip is secret, we have to assume, like the Speaker, that all votes are free".

So, the trend for voting in those topics. www.theyworkforyou.com/help/#votingrecord

Yay about Gove going but very concerned about his replacement. The sooner this government is out the better.

SignYourName · 15/07/2014 09:52

I'm so jaded and disenfranchised these days that my reaction is that the hamster might have changed but the wheel goes on turning in the same direction.

Sadly that insufferable odious excuse for a human being IDS is still in post and therefore able to continue his policy of state sponsored manslaughter

Jinsei · 15/07/2014 09:53

I'm really glad that Gove has gone, but NM really isn't any cause for celebration. :(

mummytime · 15/07/2014 09:53

Just read this!

Fabulous news!

Now lets see what happens next.

Rooble · 15/07/2014 09:55

At least she has been a school governor so should have some idea of what actually happens in school.

BigfootFiles · 15/07/2014 09:56

(If you want blow by blow breakdown, if you go to this page, and hover over the topic you are interested in, you can see all the details how she voted for each reading of each bill etc. -
www.theyworkforyou.com/mp/24732/nicky_morgan/loughborough/votes]]

So you can see, for instance, that she missed three votes on the same sex marriage bill, voted against on the Third and Second reading of the bill, but for in two minor amendments. Therefore on balance moderately against.)

FairPhyllis · 15/07/2014 09:57

Gove "stank of trust fund"? I expect his adoptive fishmonger parents from Aberdeen would be extremely surprised to hear about his trust fund.

Pointlessfan · 15/07/2014 09:58

I think the end of term parties this week will be good! (teachers I mean, not kids!) new one prob won't be any better tho.

ShelaghTurner · 15/07/2014 10:02

:o

I'm not a political animal but by God I'm grinning now. YY to worried about the replacement though.

17leftfeet · 15/07/2014 10:33

What worries me is that she is retaining her position as minister for women and equality

Is education not a full time job then?

BeatriceBean · 15/07/2014 10:37

First reaction - WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO :)

Second reaction -

So er who is there instead?

claig · 15/07/2014 10:56

Sad day for politics

digdeepforanswers · 15/07/2014 11:05

It is a suprise if Gove has been moved. But a pleasant one.

Even if Nicky morgan is Gove in bloomers.

digdeepforanswers · 15/07/2014 11:07

No one forecast the Gove move (except the TODAY programme R4)

AliceDoesntLiveHereAnymore · 15/07/2014 11:12

After Gove's dreadful policies, I'm willing to give another person a chance. I guess we'll see.

A shame IDS wasn't moved about.

digdeepforanswers · 15/07/2014 11:13

Forget to say, Victory for Mrs May in battle with Gove?

LEMmingaround · 15/07/2014 11:13

It really couldn't get much worse. Lets pray for the sake of our children that this isn't a case of out if the frying pan and into the fire

outtolunchagain · 15/07/2014 11:18

Gove is many things but a trust fund bunny he is not .

I do think though that he is being freed up for the election , also he was Mr Hated and by putting him somewhere obscure this undermines all the people who would have used education as a method of getting at the Tories in the run up to the election, this takes the heat out of the whole subject .The new education secretary's brief will be to keep a low profile and do precisely nothing to raise any negative publicity .

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 15/07/2014 11:19

Too early to tell yet.

duchesse · 15/07/2014 11:20

Looks from her voting record that Nicky Morgan mostly does what she's told though. Which could be a good thing or a bad thing.

scaevola · 15/07/2014 11:23

Being Chief Whip means he will find out a huge amount about fellow Conservatives and any/all aspects of both their professional and personal lives.

harrietspy · 15/07/2014 11:27

Fair point re trust fund, but I didn't mean it literally. I meant that his attitude, policies and utterances are utterly out of touch with the lived experience of much of the electorate and utterly in sync with the spirit of Eton that has pervaded Cameron's govt and mercilessly slashed at any notion of help for those who need it. They all stink of trust fund, no matter what their background.
