On 12 counts of indecent assault.

My ILs used to live in the same town as him and they always said he was known there to be particularly unpleasant - not in the "I always knew he was up to no good," kind of way, but just generally obnoxious/rude/used to complain to the council constantly about trivial things/rude to shop staff, etc.

I do agree though re his wife/daughter sticking by him through the trial. If the person you have known and loved all your life isn't the person you see on the stand in a courtroom then it's really not as simple as just walking away because they're being charged with something, especially when this comes as part of an operation where many others are being investigated and not all are guilty.

I feel for his wife, but I'm not so sure about his daughter. It was implied in court that her testimony was 'bought' as she'd checked she was going to get all his money. She got in the car around the corner from the court to give the impression of being supportive, but deep down I don't think she really was. She also gave evidence to say her friend was never alone with her dad to have been abused when on holiday. That might have come from a place of desperation, wanting to believe it didn't/couldn't happen. But the implication on her motives for supporting her father i.e. ensuring she'd still get her inheritance, leaves me doubting her faith he was innocent.

I think it must be a very difficult, and complex, situation from the POV of his family, but I don't necessarily think that this comes from the stance of unwavering faith in the innocence of the accused, in the case of his daughter at least.

That email from his daughter is pretty much 'Hey Dad, I will stand by you for your millions'.

Not surprising really, but you would have thought by the age of 50 she could have found her own way.

Darkesteyes · 30/06/2014 19:09

AgaPanthers someone from The Times was on BBCNews earlier saying just that. Angry

I see the daughter as pretty much a victim herself in all of this - having a dad go off with her school friend like he did and seeing no wrong doing. You can't much more inappropriate than what he did!

And it seemed she has a mother who put up with all of that. What kind of message does that give to a child. So she will be conditioned to think that this behaviour is all OK.

I don't have much sympathy his wife. She may look timid and child like but she's an adult, and was responsible for protecting her daughter's development. Why didn't she leave him when he was having these inappropriate 'affairs'.

He was having an affair with a woman who was living in the family home. Really abusive dynamics - I'm not surprised his daughter is so damaged
