The outcome of the consultation is here plus links to other key documents about the processes which went on to reach the decision.

Representative sampling is the basis on which many consultations and all opinion polls are carried out. AFAIK there are no concerns about the quality of that sector in UK.

HeeHiles · 12/06/2014 13:45

Oh and front seat tickets to the BoJo Hosedown Mrs Wink

MrsCakesPremonition · 12/06/2014 13:48

Only if I get to be in charge of the cannon - they may never be fit for public office again Grin.

Man blinded by water cannon in Germany. WARNING It's a pretty graphic article.

hollycomputer · 12/06/2014 13:59

The MOPAC consultation was a farce. They are saying they have public support based on an extremely limited poll where 52% said they know 'a little' about water cannon and 59% thought the Met already had them.

ajandjjmum · 12/06/2014 14:02

If a sample of over 4,000 Londoners doesn't count, how many would be needed to make the survey relevant?

Just wondering, as when there were riots in 2011, loads of people were saying that we should use water cannons.

Sixweekstowait · 13/06/2014 14:50

As with all surveys, it depends on the questions asked. But anyway, I don't care if 100% of the sample were in favour, it doesn't make their use right. Wonder what response you'd get if you'd also asked about capital punishment, and anyway, we live in a representative not direct democracy. After the riots, there was general consensus that the Met had fucked up their policing strategy and that water canons wouldn't have helped anyway. It's just yet more of the same - deflecting attention away from the real problems in society. Does anyone really seriously think that the use of water canons are the answer to anything?

Cautiouswendy40 · 14/06/2014 12:41

Because he likes upsetting Cameron and May

TheBogQueen · 14/06/2014 12:42

LoveSardines · 18/06/2014 18:30

Fuck only knows
Aren't they illegal anyway
I live in london
I don't want water cannons
I want the underlying causes of unrest here dealt with.

LoveSardines · 18/06/2014 18:31

"After the riots, there was general consensus that the Met had fucked up their policing strategy and that water canons wouldn't have helped anyway."

Yes true, and the riots were triggered by the behaviour of the Met in the first place.

Why not sort them out FFS rather than arming them further.
