European Election 22 May

Will you vote on 22 may in the European elections? Do you feel as though The EU has a bearing on your life, and especially now you have children?

I personally think there's a lot riding on this for mothers and working mothers. Greater protection in the workplace, and better maternity provisions for a start, but I'm interested in what others think too.

I agree, there is a lot riding on this. Ukip are no longer funny: they scare me. The misogyny of some of their candidates' statement is incredible for 2014 Britain. It does matter if a lot more of them come in as they want to dismantle a whole lot of labour, health and safety and social protections and I think it would be women who would bear the brunt. :(

A woman voting for UKIP is a bit turkey-Christmas to my mind. Personally, I think it's a good think that it's illegal to discriminate against me on the basis of my gender.

I'll certainly vote, I always do, no matter how depressing I find the choice, because there are people I definitely 100% do not want representing me and my community, and I'd rather vote for a party or individuals that don't inspire me, than a party that fills me with despair, like UKIP and the BNP. The EU may have many problems, but I'm very happy to be living in a Europe that has formal structures for cooperation, rather than shifting alliances and regular wars...

Ahem. A good thing.

Yes. I was watching the #whyimvotingukip thread on twitter last night - gobsmacked. Though some of the ironic tweets (from non UKIP voters) were very very funny.

Can't bear people who don't bother to go and vote and then complain after. The idea that UKIP might get in, with their woman-hating ways is terrifying. The EU has given successive UK governments a good kick up the a* as far as women's rights are concerned. Don't want to turn the clock back. Of course I'm voting.

As for people saying it's just a protest vote and doesn't really matter, well grow up!

OMG, check out #WhyImVotingUkip going viral just now on Twitter...This probably started a serious thread by Ukip but has backfired badly...Lots of people are making sarcastic references to the cuts in maternity leave and other rights.

Peebi that is hilarious Grin going back to read some more now.

The thing is, ridiculing Ukip's leaders/candidates hasn't worked. They are Teflon. The only way to safeguard those rights (and a half-way tolerable atmosphere in our communities) is to go out tomorrow and vote for Some Other Party (not BNP, obvsl!!)

Oh dear...This explains a few things. According to Political Scrapbook Farage boasted about the number of women he got pregnant and said his four children are just those on the 'official list'. Stay classy Nigel! And thanks for having our backs, so to speak...

will definitely vote - don't want my kids to grow up in a UKIP-shaped world. The UK without Europe would be half the man or woman it is!
