Questions for Premier League boss on his sexist emails?

KatieMumsnet · 14/05/2014 20:38

Following the news that Richard Scudamore, Chief Exec of the Premier League is to face a formal hearing about his sexist emails, Mumsnet users on this thread have been suggesting some questions he needs to answer.

'How would you feel as a woman working in your organisation?'

'Are you an asset to England's bid to host the 2019 [women's] world cup?'

'As a manager, how would you have responded if one of your staff had done this?'

What questions do you think he should face at his hearing on Tuesday? Let us know your thoughts and we'll compile the best into a page on the site.

Thanks

But if we keep sharing, tweeting and writing letters then they can't. It is up to us to keep the pressure up.

Lobbing · 18/05/2014 20:49

Dear Richard Scudamore,
did writing “The newspaper is asserting that some of the content is sexist and inappropriate. Tomorrow, on the assumption they publish, you will be the judge.” really seem like a good idea at the time?

PigletJohn · 18/05/2014 21:36

Are you going to resign now, or will you wait to be sacked?

Will you get a better payoff if you hang around for a bit?

Fishandjam · 18/05/2014 21:43

The company I work for uses DLA Piper, I think. I may, with my client hat on, write to their managing partner/exec person and ask what they intend to do.

Blondieminx · 18/05/2014 21:50

I would hope the SRA (the body which regulates solicitors) would be having a fairly frank chat with DLA Piper about their guy tomorrow...

Panwearsrosa · 18/05/2014 21:50

PJ, that's what I mean, that the messiness involved in an appeal against a sacking is unattractive - so I'd fear he will survive for a bit, or more than a bit, (when the Barclays sponsorship ends) and a deal is done sometime afterwards. He will get a commercially lucrative job elsewhere as he has by all accounts an excellent business acumen/contacts etc BUT the Premiership will fluff this one open goal.

Fishandjam · 18/05/2014 21:53

Indeed Blondie. I don't think it's striking-off territory, but some sort of sanction would seem a possibility.

Blondieminx · 18/05/2014 22:02

Do DLAP want that sort of individual bringing them bad publicity though?

jonicomelately · 18/05/2014 22:51

I think every company or individual who use DLA should ask them how they propose to deal with this man.

Blondieminx · 19/05/2014 10:49

Mirror article here btw about the PA who exposed Scudamore's emails

Roshbegosh · 19/05/2014 11:02

Tell us why you refer to women as "gash" what does that term mean exactly? Explain what gash is. Where does that term come from?

HesterShaw · 19/05/2014 11:17

Do you think the women in your family feel ashamed of you?

What is your honest opinion of the reaction to the success of the women's football tournament during London 2012?

BoffinMum · 19/05/2014 11:58

What in your past has made you hate women so much?

ForgiveMeFather · 19/05/2014 13:24

I see from your Wiki entry that you have two daughters and 3 sons.

Do you hold the same vulgar and oppressive opinion of your daughters as you seem to hold of the rest of the female population?

Are they just (and I quote) 'skinny, big titted broads" to you too?

What of your sons Mr Scudamore? Do they share your vulgar and misogynistic views too or did your wife somehow manage to convey a sense of decency when they were being raised? unlikely I should imagine

guineapiglet · 19/05/2014 13:58

I guess I would like to ask IF you understand

a. the widespread offence you have caused by your attitude and language
b. how inappropriate it is for someone with such offensive beliefs and attitudes to hold such a visible position of power
c. to ask If you have ever attended a Gail Dines lecture...if not please do, immediately. Maybe she can enlighten you as to why you need to understand a and b, and explain to you why women despair over and over that men like you exist Biscuit Angry

Enjoy spending your, no doubt, exorbitant and utterly immoral pay off.

Update re the DLA Piper lawyer, Nick West. Over the weekend I took a look at his profile on the firm's website. It had the usual laudatory stuff from Legal 500 etc etc, as well as reams of details on the type of work he undertakes. However, now, there's nothing. It's nearly all gone. The only information left is his name and the fact he's a partner, his vCard and telephone number, and a quote from Chambers & Partners in a sidebar that the IT Dept seems to have missed Grin

I reckon gardening leave pending some sort of settled exit? He's a partner so a straight gross misconduct dismissal would likely be too difficult.

As far as the emails go, his appear to have been the more misogynistic and unpleasant ones - and I'm aware that's going some, given the tone of Scudamore's.

KatieMumsnet · 19/05/2014 15:07

Thanks Blondieminx for sharing the Mirror article, and just to say David Cameron's spokesperson has also just said he thinks the emails were unacceptable.

NBC bought the US rights to premier league footy this current 2013-2014 season, DLA Piper advised the PL (Nick West advised, according to Legal Week).

Interestingly, NBC's in house counsel & VP is a woman (Wendy Bass). Wonder what on earth she makes of all this. Be very interesting if she did a Subject Access request wouldn't it, I wonder how Scudamore & West referred to her during negotiations???

KatieMumsnet · 19/05/2014 17:22

The PM, David Cameron has also just been asked about this on Five live. The Telegraph are reporting this as 'Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore should be sacked, David Cameron suggests.'

After being asked if:

“someone in your team could survive if they admitted that sort of thing”, after taking tough line on racism,

David Cameron replied:

“No I don’t think they would. But as I say I have not seen these specific texts and emails. I am very happy to go and look at them.”

No action being taken against him.

Im obviously in the minority but Im quite pleased as hes against b teams and FFP.

jonicomelately · 19/05/2014 19:56

I think you are in a minority, if you are female jess888

I am very disappointed in the decision.

freckelfootie · 19/05/2014 20:00

I have a theory that ugly men are more sexist than good looking ones. Is this correct?

Actually, that's just a rhetorical question, I can see your face chum.

DoctorTwo · 19/05/2014 20:16

You might be right freckle. Though I'm not sexist and I'm an ugly bloke. :o

Panwearsrosa · 19/05/2014 22:46

Supporting Dr - am a slightly ugly bloke (depending on the light angle), though not quite a car crash sort of ugly, and I don't think my personal practice is a sexist one...

LineRunner · 19/05/2014 23:34

The Premier League can just piss off.
