I know asylum is a complex area and things are rarely clear cut but there seems to be enough evidence that this child risks losing her mother temporarily at best, and god-knows-what at worst (para 8). And I'm sure they're not the only ones in this situation. What is wrong with the Home Office?!

it makes me so gloomy. I have written to my mp in protest using handy site

makes it easy to email your mp

it's a while since i've done that but who is speaking up for these people? can you imagine how the mother must feel knowing what awaits her daughter. isn't our first instinct to protect our children? what despair she must be experiencing.

This is terribly sad. Its shameful that people are turned back when there are in reality such a small number of asylum seekers arriving in our safe countries.
The article states that the problem of numbers doesn't lie with asylum seekers.

I think it is appalling. The country information they use is supplied by the policy Unit, what I can't understand is why more current information can't be used/approved and I would like to know whether the case workers in the IND do try to do their own research and submit it and it's refused or whether they don't.

I have just been interviewed for the position of asylum case owner as part of the NAM and I had high hopes that things would get better..theoretically there are no quotas for refusal each case is supposed to be considered on its merits.

and yet they seem to be ignoring expert witnesses about the state of uganda and the reality of the lra and the govt/lra 'relationship' (just how long is ugandan govt going to keep using same useless 'hunt 'em down' policy which has been failing for what, 18/19/20 years?)

they are currently interviewing for I think 200-300 new jobs as asylum case owners..I can vouch that the application process is extremely tough..it will be interesting to see whether having employed these intelligent articulate graduates they are able to make more right thinking decisions

it sounds promising - lets hope things do get better. and good luck with your application! it must be hard and harrowing work but you sound like the right person for the job to me! it would be great to be in a position to make a real difference to someone's life.
