The Budget

So are you any better off?

According to the Calculator apparently neither better or worse.......can't see anything on Child Tax credit
Should the tax rate remain 40% on higher incomes or should there be a flat rate? There was a debate on the BBC site yesterday - interesting what the higher earners "i've earned my money so the govt shouldn't take away from my endeavour" say vs the redistribution school.

Can see both sides and sometimes am swayed by the eloquence of the argument rather than the actual argument itself - so wishy washy me......

I put into the calculator to take into account inflation and we stay the same. But the only questions asked were about income(and it didn't say whether gross or net) and about fags/booze. Since we don't smoke, I'm pregnant and DH only drinks a little doesn't account for much.

Would guess that using that calculator most people would stay the same.

No change for us

Hulababy · 17/03/2004 15:15

Apparantly no change for us either. Somehow I reckon there will be a negative one hidden in there somewhere though Dh has a big talk about the Budget tomorrow as part of work so may know more then.

But they didn't take into account any tax credits, company car taxation etc - all things which affect us so can't see how accurate the calculator is.

I thought that too Bozza, doesn't look at having a child at all. Not much use at all really. Wonder if there is a better one somewhere else on the net?

A more detailed one here though you have to register for it. Does take account of child benefit etc. We gain about £1 a week apparently!
