Judge says

"I have come to the conclusion that due to the concern and embarrassment caused to both you and your family that you will not be offending again, let alone committing sexual offences."

She is now a mother herself, according to the report I read.

I hope that baby has been permanently removed from her care and will have zero contact, and not (as the article I read seemed to infer) been given to her parents to bring up.

PigletJohn · 20/03/2014 13:00

I find it very difficult to believe that a male offender would be let off so lightly. Can that really be true?

Grennie · 20/03/2014 13:10

Yes it is true. Use google. Some get the book thrown at them. Lots get off very lightly.

Pregnantberry · 20/03/2014 13:11

I was shocked that she had her own child but the judge claimed she was too immature at 21 (which is frankly insulting to 21 year olds) to realize the severity of what she had done... And at another point he said she needed to get back to caring for her baby.
Erm, if you say she is incapable of realizing that raping children is wrong, why would he be in a hurry to get her back to her own child?
Hmm

Pregnantberry · 20/03/2014 13:13

Ah, I read a different news article to that one, I think mine was the Daily Mail one. Blush It was going around on FB alright-

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2014 13:17

Can anyone confirm whether she will be on the sex offenders register for life? She should never be in a position where she works alongside children!
Plus surely social services must be ivolved wrt her own child...surely?

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2014 13:19

and here is a sickening example of houw double standards in sex harm boys as well as girls. he boy was boasting about it, and I worry that there is some attitude of boys like it - it's good for them.

TheFabulousIdiot · 20/03/2014 13:26

It's pretty safe to assume that her child is not in the care of her immediate family.

AgaPanthers · 20/03/2014 13:28

SPB article says 10 years on sex offenders registry. Social services definitely involved with child.

StealthPolarBear · 20/03/2014 13:30

10 years. So she'll be youger than me when she can get a job in a school next. Having raped a young child.
What do you mean fabulous? It sounds to me as though the judge assumes she herself is primary carer (obv not for next year)

Dinosaursareextinct · 20/03/2014 22:36

It's a horrible story. The boy was 8 years old! My DD is 9 and the boys in her class seem really really young to me. Very much still small boys and totally innocent.

fuzzpig · 20/03/2014 22:45

Fucking hell there are no words

littleducks · 20/03/2014 22:56

"the judge claimed she was too immature at 21 (which is frankly insulting to 21 year olds) to realize the severity of what she had done... "

According to the link in OP it was her defence lawyer who said that tbf.

But I do agree to lenient and wtf was the judge thinking?

TweetPetite · 20/03/2014 22:59

Horrific and shocking. Just so incomprehensible.
Is the sentence so lenient because age of consent applies only to females? Not sure about that but think I remember hearing it somewhere.

TweetPetite · 20/03/2014 23:01

Ignore me. Think I'm wrong.

kilmuir · 20/03/2014 23:04

Awful

BuggersMuddle · 20/03/2014 23:13

If she doesn't understand I would have expected fairly severe SN and / or a low IQ? That's not coming out at all in the article. Otherwise that sentence seems ridiculous.

PollyCazaletWannabe · 21/03/2014 07:15

I agree- I thought LDs as well. What a sad case if so.

EirikurNoromaour · 21/03/2014 07:23

8 year old boys can get erections and in some cases might be capable of penetrative sex.
Sadly there seems to be a culture with some boys whereby early sexual activity is normalised. I read an interview with Chris brown where he described watching a lot of porn from a younger age than that and 'losing his virginity' around the same age. I think it says a lot about his psychological development tbh and is having a hugely detrimental effect on boys development.
Lenient sentences like this just reinforce the idea that boys early sexual exposure is nothing to be that worried about.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2014 08:12

yes exactly Eirik. Most 'normal' people agree that girls should not be having sex young (in fact most people recognise it as rape). But when a boy has sex with a young woman the attitude often is 'good on him'. This case is obviously extreme, but I suspect had he been 13 or 14, few would have been shocked.

Nataleejah · 21/03/2014 10:55

I thought WTF... But reading correctly, she was 16 at the time, and the boy BRAGGED to his mates a few years later... Both creepy and not sure if it ads up.

StealthPolarBear · 21/03/2014 10:56

Why is it creepy that he bragged? I have no expertise of this, but I suspect it was easier to brag than to admit to himself he had been abused.

phantomnamechanger · 25/03/2014 21:10

not at all surprised he bragged, he is a young child, bragging is what they do, trying to impress their mates, and in his mind he was dead grown up Sad

utterly repulsed by this and shocked by the lenient sentence.

started when she was 16ish - I wonder if she was the trusted babysitter?

manicinsomniac · 26/03/2014 00:19

Completely shocking that the sentence could be so low.

I agree with previous posters about the natural bragging. I had a friend at uni who was proud to have lost his virginity at the age of 9. He would not accept that he had been abused and was proud to have 'attracted' a teenage girl.

I can't see the reference to 'affair' but could it possible be talking about 'the affair' as in 'the situation/matter' rather than affair in the relationship sense?

tracypenisbeaker · 26/03/2014 00:43

IMO the judge sounds like a pedophile as well. No normal person who was compassionate about children would let an evil, sick cow like her basically get away with it.
