I'm really quite shocked at this; it was just yesterday that I was listening to an interview he gave to Radio 4.

Jux · 11/03/2014 15:01

I am really saddened by his death. RIP.

He was a man of principle. Not many of those left.

MrsDavidBowie · 11/03/2014 18:51

Couldn't stand him or his politics, but a terrible thing to happen to such a relatively young person.

LineRunner · 11/03/2014 20:26

Absolutely, Raw. Democracy needs people like Bob Crow. I saw him in my local pub about two years ago, talking to people I knew from 'just round here', who were in danger of losing their jobs. He went all out to protect those jobs. And he largely succeeded. Impressive stuff.

longfingernails · 11/03/2014 22:15

Am sad on a human level, 52 is too young for anyone.

His political stance, however, was fundamentally immoral, and has no place in a civilised society.

2013go · 11/03/2014 23:07

Rubbish fingernails! On the contrary- a few more Bob Crows and we'd be a bit closer to having a civilised society

DonnaDishwater · 11/03/2014 23:23

No we wouldn't! We'd just have more jobs being shipped abroad or automated. There are very few industries like the railways where the workers can strike so effectively. And eventually the union hold will be broken, "Spanish practices" can't go on forever.

2013go · 11/03/2014 23:35

It will be a sad day for all workers and not just RMT workers, the day the union's 'hold' is broken.

DonnaDishwater · 12/03/2014 00:12

Why will it be a sad day for all workers? How about the people who actually use the trains that have to put up with inflation busting price rises and frequent strikes? Do you think they'll be sad about it?

telsa · 12/03/2014 11:23

yes, I think many of those people are sad - I am one who daily uses it and have always supported the strikes. Crow and the union care about safety and conditions on the tube - well trained, safe workers means safe passengers - and the RMT workers are not the ones trousering any profits being made. Need to look elsewhere for that - get up off your knees.

telsa · 12/03/2014 11:24

immoral - unciivilsed - I cannot believe my ears/eyes! I think you need to look further up - in the city and govt - for such behaviour.

slug · 12/03/2014 12:13

This is one of those very rare occasions when I find myself totally agreeing with claig.

People like Bob Crow stop politics being a consensus of the privileged.

fedupandfifty · 12/03/2014 13:45

RIP Bob Crow. He was a man of principle who worked tirelessly for his members.

He will be missed by the Trade Union movement. We need more union leaders like him.
