Story here

She must have left him for quite a while but to do so in this heat is irresponsible, imo.

Terrible story. She should be ashamed.

I will never understand this type of thing.

intergalacticwalrus · 26/07/2006 12:10

This sort of story makes me so Are people really that thick? How hard is it to take a baby round a supermarket? That's what the seats on trolleys are for ffs.

There's a woman who leaves her dog in the car while she goes and picks her kids up from the school at the end of our road, and one day a couplae of weeks ago, the poor thing was left in the baking car without even any windows open. She was gone for a good 45 mins, so DP reported it to the RSPCA.

stupid cow

LIZS · 26/07/2006 12:12

omg poor child. Presumably they would have put a call out for her in store though before calling the police ?

expatinscotland · 26/07/2006 12:12

hope the RSPCA followed it up, inter!

intergalacticwalrus · 26/07/2006 12:12

Have also in the past had to feed water to dogs, left in cars by stupid w*nkers, through tiny gaps in the window.

alicemama · 26/07/2006 12:14

I remember a while ago in the states a woman popped into work but left her 2 toddlers in the car.
she got distracted and "forgot" about them and they both died while she was busy chatting!!!!

How can you forget about your children???

intergalacticwalrus · 26/07/2006 12:15

they did, afaik, expat. I wasn';t here at the time, DP saw it all.

intergalacticwalrus · 26/07/2006 12:16

alicemama. I do leave DS in the car while I pay for petrol, which I am sure there's tons of arguments against, but then I am gone for literally 1 minute, and I feel all jittery doing it. I'd never leave him in the car for longer though

expatinscotland · 26/07/2006 12:17

b*stards, inter!

animal and child neglect/abuse make me see red.

i, too, have gone into shops and bought a bottle of water to feed a dog thru a crack in the window.

w/one hand, whilst the other was phoning the cops - b/c in the states it's a chargeable offense.

if i EVER saw a child left alone in a car in this heat, i'd call 911 straightaway. there's no way of knowing how long they've been in there, and kids can go downhill fast.

speedymama · 26/07/2006 12:51

Leaving your children in the car to pay for petrol is not a problem, imo. You are only gone for a couple of minutes and can see them all the time. I have 2yo twins and to take them out of the car just to pay for petrol would be too cumbersome as well as dangerous (crossing the forecourt).

Leaving a baby in a baking car to go shopping is sheer madness. The stupidity of some people never ceases to amaze me. As a grandmother, she should really know better

I reported someone at our local ASDA about a month ago, it was a really hot day and a child was left asleep in the back of the car, even from where I was standing (didn't go up close as didn't want to upset child) you could see that she was red and sweaty. Reported it to customer services who put out a message, when I'd finished shopping the car had gone - I was so cross

edam · 26/07/2006 13:23

For heaven's sake, how stupid can you get? Idiots.

Saw a dog left in a car with windows shut in full sunlight and no water once while at a museum. Fortunately the staff were able to find the owners and send them out. Hope they were bloody ashamed and never did it again. But I have my doubts.

FFS why take a dog with you if you are planning to leave it? And even more FFS WHY leave a child alone in a car on a baking hot day for more than a few seconds? Paying for petrol I can see is (takes minutes, and you can see them) but leaving them any longer than that?

alicemama · 26/07/2006 13:29

I have also left them them in the car to pay for petrol but thats it.
If I'm going to be longer than a minute or they're not within sight, I'll alwayss take them out and take them with me...

I don't understand how anybody can "forget" about their children in that situation

edie123 · 28/09/2006 13:08

Just as importantly-what about leaving the child alone in the first place?! It's illegal to leave a child at home alone but why not in a car? Id worry about abduction too!

lovingbarney · 28/09/2006 13:16

What planet is this women on? I leave them in car for petrol. Such a silly women .
