there's been another misunderstanding and I for one am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt Wink

Stupid woman!

GobbySadcase · 22/12/2013 13:27

Oh dear.

Why can't she just follow the steps to get it approved?

PacificDingbat · 22/12/2013 13:28

She sounds a bit... unhinged? "You stupid bitch" to the bearer of bad news??
I am not sure I'd want her representing my country. And I am not British Xmas Grin

vestandknickers · 22/12/2013 13:35

Heather Mills is a monumental arse.

limitedperiodonly · 22/12/2013 13:42

I just saw her giving her version of events on Sky News. A more cynical soul than me might find it less than convincing Grin

I particularly liked: 'the ridiculous reports that she begged me not to hit her are just tabloid rubbish.'

this

"The row erupted when the 45-year-old Paralympic skiing hopeful was told by IPC official Sylvana Mestre that she would have to change her ski boot to comply with IPC rules." from sky doesn't match with

"it was agreed that if Mills filled in an adaptive equipment form and the prosthetic's supplier agreed to any liability in case of an accident, it would be considered for approval." from the first article.

limitedperiodonly · 22/12/2013 16:46

So what do you think boneybackjefferson?

Do you think that someone with a dramatic past who previously claimed to have broken her shoulder-blade in multiple places while training is reasonable in not complying with paperwork in case of an accident, or do you think the authority is just being prudent in asking her to do that?

I truly believe that if you sustain an injury in the nature of your work or everyday comings and goings then the relevant party should cough up.

But I also think it's reasonable of them to take steps to protect themselves.

BoneyBackJefferson · 22/12/2013 17:47

IMO, I think that she is once again after media attention and if she truly wanted to participate in the sport she would abide by the rules of the organisers.

"I truly believe that if you sustain an injury in the nature of your work or everyday comings and goings then the relevant party should cough up."

Who is the relevant party? is it the governing body that states that the boots are not allowed or the manufacturer of the boots? or the person taking part in the sport knowing that accidents and injury happen?

scaevola · 22/12/2013 17:57

Surely if you want to represent your country at an event for which you need a prosthetic, and all prosthetics have to be approved (so that 'advantage' arising from technology is cancelled out as far as possible - like blade runs have to fit within certain sizes); the sensible thing to do is check your prosthetic with the governing body early on (as you need to train and compete on the approved one).

It's something all other prosthetic sports people manage...

She was a long way short of being likely to qualify. She has now disqualified herself, blaming someone else in the process. This is easier for her than facing up to the fact that she is a failure.

edamsavestheday · 28/12/2013 09:30

Very good point, MostWicked.

Given Mills' past behaviour, I'm inclined to believe the account of the officials, not hers.

PacificDingbat · 28/12/2013 10:14

That's what I thought: she can live with being disqualified on some technicality which she could've avoided more easily, than not being able to qualify. Poor woman.

noddyholder · 28/12/2013 13:30

She can never win.

SundaySimmons · 30/12/2013 21:27

Regardless of Heather having a marmite personality, she is a great inspiration for anyone who has had their leg amputated.

She suffered a horrific accident when her leg was severed and Unlike me who would have probably would then spent the rest of my life in a wheelchair feeling sorry for myself she has lived her life as a two legged person and not let the loss of her leg hold her back from doing anything.

I like Heather, she has a great spirit and passion about her.

MostWicked · 30/12/2013 22:13

She is a liar and a fantasist, not an inspiration. Just watch the Paralympics with the true paralympians or see the amputee soldiers from Headley Court if you want to find inspiration.

Richard Whitehead, now there's inspiration.

PacificDingbat · 30/12/2013 22:17

She is who she is, with or without her lower leg.

Many people who have the misfortune to lose a limb get on with life with courage and resilience and most don't expect 'special treatment' for having dealt with adversity.
