I'm a big fan of her journalism and her jolly, warm parenting books.
I was really shocked to hear that the sweet little boy she speaks of with such humorous love in her books killed himself in the family home earlier this week. He was only 23 and had been suffering from serious depression for some time apparently. All the love and support in the world couldn't help poor Nicholas Heiney.
Feeling so sad for Libby and her family now. and for all families out there supporting children with mental health problems.

Poor Libby I really feel for her. I found out last week that an old friend from school and college who I also lived with for two years had taken her own life. She did it in a particularly upsetting way and could have taken others with her. I had no idea that she was in such despair. We moved house around the same time 2 years ago and I lost her contact details before I could give her mine, I always meant to catch up with her somehow but life got in the way (we lived 200 miles apart). She had a five year old son

How dreadful. She sounds like a great mum.

I hadn't seen this before. I'm so sorry to read this, and very moved. I feel deeply for the family. No one knows that this will not strike their child

I heard about this only today after reading LP's column in the Times. I loved her books too; the portrayal of her children as tinies was so warm and loving. Unbearably sad.

I am so sad. He couldn't have had a better mother. Her books gives such a much needed no-nonsense attitude towards parenting. I am really grateful to her, and wish her and her family a lot of strength
