A surprise, or not?

It's interesting in the way it emerged, via an unrelated SAS case. Not sure what to believe but I am watching with interest.

sparklingstars · 18/08/2013 10:46

Likewise.

I knew at the time it was a conspiracy. She wasn't supposed to marry an Arab, they made sure of it.

BMW6 · 18/08/2013 19:58

Another book coming out soon I fear! More money to be made from the gullible...............

comingalongnicely · 23/08/2013 22:29

D'you honestly think any organisation that would sanction the killing of a Royal wouldn't have tied up any loose ends over the past 15 or so years?

As said above, I think another book is coming out....

Lazyjaney · 24/08/2013 00:27

Only 1 book....?

usualsuspect · 24/08/2013 00:29

I like s nice conspiracy.

DioneTheDiabolist · 24/08/2013 00:30

I remember at the time thinking "how long until someone comes up with a conspiracy theory" and went back to sleep.

When I woke up, it had happened and I have been (periodically) plagued by them ever since.Angry

nennypops · 24/08/2013 15:38

The conspiracy theories around this are such nonsense. If anyone powerful wanted to kill her, there were so many easy ways of doing it. There is no way they would choose to do it in a foreign country where they could not control the police and the media, in front of a group of paparazzi, and relying on a car crash which she could easily have survived if she had worn a seat belt.

hermioneweasley · 24/08/2013 15:41

I agree any number of parties might have wanted Diana dead, and there might even have been plans in place to carry it out. But it is just too far fetched to believe that anyone coukd have engineered the accident which killed her.

MasterOfTheYoniverse · 25/08/2013 17:40

it wasn't an arab she wanted to marry but a british/pakistani surgeon. Muslim you mean? Hmm
Thing is he had absolutely no intention of marrying her?..sad they are making a movie about it now. whats the point?

With hindsight, its disgusting to think what kind of heartache her children have gone through at the time of her death.
The rumors of her pregnancy, the maelstrom created by Al Fayed. Its to the Royals credit really that they let all those conspiracy theories fly by to protect the privacy of the real story.

ChoudeBruxelles · 25/08/2013 17:45

It was the florists. They did it - hired assassins so they would make a small bloody fortune when crazy people travelled to London laden with flowers to put outside buck palace

BMW6 · 25/08/2013 18:32

I wonder if many of those who took flowers to Kensington Palace etc now look back on it and feel a little embarrased at the mass hysteria that they had got caught up in?

Animation · 26/08/2013 12:47

I remember feeling choked when I heard she'd died. Difficult to describe why, I guess you had to be there in those times watching the course her life took. If I'd lived in London I would have taken flowers I'm sure. I can't think of any famous person now I would react that way over.

ben5 · 26/08/2013 12:51

I went to London the Friday after her death. I had never known London so quite. It was very weird

ChoudeBruxelles · 26/08/2013 16:07

See it was the floristsWink

KatyDidItAgain · 28/08/2013 17:09

I lived and worked in London at the time, it was indeed strange.

mateysmum · 28/08/2013 17:24

She died because she was in a car being driven too fast by a man intoxicated by drink and drugs. Oh and she wasn't wearing a seat belt. End of... Strange that the only survivor of the crash was the only one wearing a seat belt.

Her death was tragic, but the public reaction was ludicrous. To pillory the Queen for staying at Balmoral to protect her poor grandchildren rather than parading them and herself on the streets to console the public was very unkind.

bemybebe · 30/08/2013 09:38

ben I was a student drinking with my friends outside one of the pubs somewhere in the Fleet Street area (don't remember exactly which one). Someone came up to me and told me off big time for laughing. I was shocked! (Still is)

Hulababy · 30/08/2013 09:43

I don't understand the conspiracy argument. Surely it's all straight forward. She got in a car. The driver was drunk. She didn't wear a seat belt. The car drove too fast. It crashed. Those not wearing a seat belt were killed.

That's very formal TSC - William and Henry!

Ooh I'm a conspiracy theorist. Maybe it will come out in years to come that she was murdered, I don't think it will be any time soon though.

clam · 30/08/2013 09:57

I wonder if William would be quite so cosy with the Middletons had Diane still been around.
I suspect they would have been matey-matey initially, and then Diana would have got the hump about something and frozen them out. William would then have had to play a difficult go-between role.

BMW6 · 30/08/2013 20:03

It was all very convenient though wasn't it?

What a ridiculous thing to say. Convenient for who?? Think before you post such an asinine remark.

clam · 31/08/2013 09:42

Just read a ridiculous piece (Mail I'm afraid) on her death. First, the speculation that she was pregnant (because of an "unmistakeable pregnancy bump" shown on that yacht when wearing a swimming costume and slouching slightly) - since when has a pregnancy, that could only have been a few weeks along, shown visibly? And her good friend Rosa Monckton holidayed with her a week-10 days or so beforehand and reported, in the most delicate way she could, that she'd been on her period at the time.
But the most ludicrous theory of all, was the "testimony" from a French couple driving ahead of the car in that tunnel, who said they saw, through their rear-view mirror, a motorbike stop at the wreckage, the rider get off, peer through the window and turn to give his accomplice a recognised military signal for "mission accomplished." How on earth could two people in a car (two rear-view mirrors??) see all that as their own car was travelling away from the scene, presumably at a reasonable speed. They were ahead of Diana's car, there would need to be time for it to swerve, hit the pillar, skid to a stop, the bike to stop, the rider alight, pick his way through scattered debris, establish the scene inside and then make his "signal." And the Pont d'Alma tunnel, if I recall correctly, is not straight, which means there would be no direct view from a distance due to a curve in the road.
And why the hell did they not stop their car to assist?
