Skybore one of my friends did indeed kill herself following a rape. Another friend has ongoing PTSD.

But let's talk about the 35 men a year who are unjustly accused of rape, rather than the 5,000 plus rape victims...

Sheshelob · 09/08/2013 21:29

Yeah, coz the bad thing about rape is that MEN's lives are ruined by lying women.

Bore. Off.

NiceTabard · 09/08/2013 21:41

The two men I know who have been accused of rape have nice jobs, houses and families and seem to be doing perfectly well. Interesting innit.

Also don't see how being accused of rape is worse than being accused of murder, beating up pensioners or torturing children. To take a few examples.

My suspicion is that the calls for anonimity are rooted in a false idea that women and girls routinely lie about being raped, rather than anything else. Even after men and boys are found guilty of rape, they often receive support and sympathy and a belief that despite a (hard to obtain) guilty verdict they are still not guilty. The whole thing is rooted in a deep hatred of females, quite frankly.

Skybore · 09/08/2013 22:11

Nova let's talk about all of them I say, not one or the other. I don't believe the figures are that low I already said so.
A deep hatred of women? Hardly, I love women. All those dear to me and who I love are female, that's just crazy talk IMO. Clearly too emotive a topic to discuss and I don't do name calling. Have a nice weekend.

Female-dominated website? So what? My personal life and working life is female dominated, nurse for 30 years, 2 teenage girls, mum, wife. What's that got to do with anything? But we are all able to debate and have differing opinions without being told to fuck off in so many words Sheshelob. I hope you can control yourself in the real world where you are not anonymous. Someone takes a point of view you happen to disagree with and it's fuck off?

You must be aware that this site is frequently trolled by unsavoury types who enjoy baiting women because they hate us having a tiny corner of the internet to largely chat among ourselves? There's no need to get defensive.

NiceTabard · 09/08/2013 22:49

What is your "point of view"?

You haven't shared that beyond saying ANOTHER man falsely accused of rape. As if it were one of the most prevalent crimes in our society. When in fact false accusations of rape run at the same % as false accusations of other crimes.

Also interested as to why you think a man accused of rape will face a worse reaction from society than a man accused of child torture or a woman accused of abusing and murdering her children.

Sheshelob · 09/08/2013 22:50

If you are actually a regular of MN, you would know that these boards get this kind of outraged OP about once a week.

I really don't care how many women you know/are related to. The bottom line is you think we should be up in arms about false accusations when the focus on women's dishonesty is the very thing behind the horrifically low conviction rate.

You're backing the wrong horse, son. You are either naive or looking for a fight.

And if you were looking for nice ladies who will entertain your bullshit, you've come to the wrong place.

LurcioLovesFrankie · 09/08/2013 23:02

Skybore, if you really want to worry about something, you might like to consider the fact that you are statistically more likely to be raped by another man than you are to be falsely accused of rape by a woman. That might help to put the risks in proportion for you. And both risks pale into insignificance compared to the risks faced by the long list of women in your life - on average, 1 in 4 women suffers sexual assault at some stage in their lives.

The home office and police figures (those well known bastions of radical feminism) put the rate of false accusations of rape at round about 3 to 5%, i.e. exactly the same as for theft. People are no more nor less likely to make false accusations about one than the other. And as has been pointed out upthread, that means the vast majority of reported rapes did take place. But funnily enough, the number leading to a successful conviction is very low.

And I'm baffled as to why you brought up the case of the 41 year old man given a non-custodial sentence for raping a 13 year old. What relevance does it have to a discussion of false accusations? (FWIW, he confessed: the furore is over the prosecution barrister and judge's dreadful victim-blaming comments and the non-custodial nature of the sentence, which as I understand, is going to be reviewed).

Skybore · 09/08/2013 23:23

Different case Frankie, it was on bbc tonight. Not looking for nice ladies to entertain, or a fight, or be patronised shelob so must be naive. I repeat, I don't believe it has to be either or, it's not about needing something to worry about. Deja vu, yes I agree with all of you about low rate of conviction. Stop assuming I am your enemy and that you somehow know 'what my bottom line is' how could you on such a brief encounter?
