Traffic accident at primary school

This is so scary because it could happen to any of us. The man allegedly had a coughing fit and put his foot on accelerator instead of brake. I know I've sneezed when driving and it is a momentary loss of concentration but that's all it takes I guess.

I hope they all get well soon.

This is partly why I've never bothered learning to drive. I get horrendous fits of sneezing (hayfever) and coughing (asthma) & would not feel confident getting behind the wheel.

Feel sorry for everyone involved. Those poor people he hit, & he will always have to live with that & it's not even his fault. So sad.

The school is very local to us.

It does appear to be a horrific accident, but it really hammers home how fragile life really is.

I hope everyone involved can make a full and speedy recovery.

It's hideous. That picture of the lollipop lady's sign lying battered in the road... I hope all the children and adults make a good recovery, especially the poor lass who is in intensive care.

Just seen this on the news - my heart goes out to the whole community, how awful for so many little ones to have witnessed such a thing.

Lollipop ladies and men are unsung heroes in my book.

hope they all make a full recovery.

Update from BBC news

The main bits of the article are the driver's account of the accident

Mr Bell, 61, said his grand-daughter told him he coughed before he lost consciousness in the crash.

"I was stationary and my grand-daughter said I coughed and the next thing I knew I'm coming round and I'd been unconscious and upside down," he told BBC Wales.

"I haven't a clue what happened. Luckily my grand-daughter came round before me. She just has tiny minor cuts. She had the sense of mind to undo her seatbelt and reach over and undo mine and we then dropped."

Mr Bell suffered cuts and bruises in the crash in the village of Rhoose near Barry at 08:50 BST on Thursday, and has some stitches to his forehead.

He has been helping police who are not treating the incident as deliberate.

and a fantastic response from one of the parents

Matthew Roymon, who lives opposite Mr Bell and whose daughter was injured, said he believed it was a "freak accident" and he did not blame Mr Bell in any way.

Mr Roymon said the incident "could've happened to anyone", while he also praised the response of the emergency services, parents and the school as "second to none".

The brakes on my car broke yesterday as I did the school run so this has had a huge impact on me. Just a split second can change your life. I hope all involved recover quickly.
