In the Times today-a list of things to do before you die-compiled by a survey. I can't say that I agree with them all but I have done more than 30 and have some still to do and some I have no desire to do.
How many have you done?
Would you add anything?

3 Take two holidays a year
4 Enjoy the little comforts in life
5 Experience different cultures
6 Work to live, rather than live to work
7 Pay off all debts
8 Be true to yourself
9 Concentrate on what you have, rather than what you don?t have
10 Use money on experiences rather than saving for a rainy day
11 Make time for family and friends
12 Try all types of food
13 Find true love

that came up on one of the surveys I do, at least I got paid 10p for responding!

there are some things on there (26, 42, 45) that only a real jerk would do, and some that I would find really boring.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/05/2013 12:50

No, loads of places I've not been yet either juneau even though I reached their 25 (Thanks San Marino and Vatican City !)

Like you sub-Sahran Africa, also for me any of South America, China, Russia, Australia and NZ, west coast America, are all on the wish list, plus loads of places I'd love to go back to with the DCs this time ....

VerySmallSqueak · 08/05/2013 14:10

I have participated in a few 45's and a couple of 42's specialsubject but don't see myself as a real jerk.

Part of life's rich tapestry.

thegreylady · 08/05/2013 14:23

I have only two things on my 'bucket list':
see the Northern Lights [planning to go next year]
fly over Mount Everest on a clear day [will never happen]

However what I want more than anything is to live long enough for all my grandchildren to have some good memories of me.The youngest is 4 so I guess another 8/10 years [gosh that's not long :( ] would do it. I'm 69 now so it could be possible I suppose.

thegreylady · 08/05/2013 14:27

I have done 40 of the 50 above and the others are mainly things I wouldn't want to do.I have visited 25 countries and done the financial/family/career things.

VerySmallSqueak · 08/05/2013 14:30

thegreylady if you can't fly over Everest on a clear day, would you ever be able to just go and see it for real?

It's something I would dearly love to do - I've had an Everest fixation for years and while I know it's unlikely an unfit mother in her 40's will ever make the summit and get home for the school run,I like to think that one day I will at least see her for real.

CatherinaJTV · 08/05/2013 14:35

I have done all of these apart from the ones I do not desire (eg 38) and the thing about the career peak - happy that in my profession there is always one more thing to thrive for.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/05/2013 14:36

She has some other lovely names too ... "Chomolungma" or "Holy Mother" are two I found on Wikipedia Smile

whiteandyellowiris · 08/05/2013 15:55
  1. stop wasting time writing silly lists

ok, job doneGrin

eccentrica · 08/05/2013 16:14

Take MDMA with people you love

Swim in the sea

Learn to play a musical instrument

Have sex with someone you love

Wear something made of pure silk

...sure there are lots more!

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/05/2013 16:20

What's MDMA eccentrica ?
Is it drugs ? Shock

eccentrica · 08/05/2013 16:42

Yes juggling it's the chemical in Ecstasy (E) but most of the time what is sold as Ecstasy isn't the real thing. The real thing, taken safely in a beautiful environment with people you love and good music, is genuinely, truly one of the most positive and beautiful experiences you can have.

I am a fairly hardened and cynical old boot so take it from me Smile

aoife24 · 08/05/2013 17:56

I think I've done about 16, not all of which I'm proud of...Hmm

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/05/2013 18:20

Ah, are we allowed to talk about drugs on hereeccentrica? Personally speaking I may have inhaled something in my youth IYKWIM, and was a good experience at the time so am not completely against it. I think it can be slightly arbitrary which drugs society says are legal ?

Whenever I lists entitled "Things to do before you die" I am always surprised that "Shout for help" is not the top answer.

thermalsinapril · 08/05/2013 19:48

"Things to do before the end of the day" would be more useful!

Each day has enough of its own to be getting on with Smile

Minimammoth · 08/05/2013 20:45

Personally I would like to achieve a non 'doing' thing. To find peace within myself.

crashdoll · 08/05/2013 21:46

Another one who hates those bucket lists. I've had a difficult life (not trying to be woe is me,it is what it is) and all I want is to be content in life with whatever I have. I spent a lot of time trying to be cleverer, thinner and just generally trying to be perfect. It made me desperately unhappy. There's always something better to aspire to; a better degree classification or a bigger first home (or any first home actually!) but I want to be content with what I have now, rather than constantly peering into the future and wishing I had more. What I have is good enough for me right now.

(I've clearly had far too much therapy!)

curryeater · 08/05/2013 21:55

Good answer, Crashdoll. Someone was burbling the other day about a narrow squeak making them want to live life to the full, ie, doing a load of attention -seeking, expensive, midlife crisis type things. But I just want to live THIS life to the full. The one I have with my two little girls at home and devoted to me, my lovely dp, our pretty little town, my fun job, books to read, music to play, trees to look at, friends to see. It's the good stuff right now.

b4bunnies · 08/05/2013 22:01

oh, i thought you were just asking what i wanted to do before i die...
i was just going to write 'tidy up' fifty times.

Rockinhippy · 08/05/2013 22:57

I agree its a rubbish list, but I'm quite shocked to see that I've actually done most of themShock

Though losing more than a stone was down to ill health, not needing to - does that countGrin & being well though of by family is never going to happen, because so long as I know my intentions are good, I really don't care what others think, which just doesn't work with a narc DM

21 is probably impossible & fast cars don't interest me, so a fast bike will have to do & I've a way to go with a 20 yr marriage & grand DCs

Rubbish list, agree too money driven & contradictory

golfyc · 08/05/2013 23:03

Think that its probably just better to try and be a decent human being and enjoy yourself - however that probably means someone will just make another ruddy list!

LaurieFairyCake · 08/05/2013 23:13

Why is 'have sex with George Clooney' not on that list

Rockinhippy · 08/05/2013 23:13

I'd like to see a larger survey and see how the "thing to do before you die" change with age

Me too, you can start to spot the likely answers though, but yes, that would be more interesting to me too
