horrific story, sorry

"'Raped' Delhi five-year-old in a critical condition" is the headline. Why 'raped'?

I'd imagine it's shorthand for 'allegedly'. What an awful story.

flowery · 21/04/2013 09:58

Presumably because its alleged rather than established proven fact at the moment?

pumpkinsweetie · 21/04/2013 10:00

What a horrific story Sad

TenBitSailor · 21/04/2013 10:01

But don't you go with the allegedly bit when you've a suspect's name to protect, not when there's no suspect and you're just discussing the victim?

It seems as though there's no definitive answer to what actually happened yet. She has bruises and has made an accusation, by the look of the story. The exact nature of the crime is not proven.

The Boston bombs were 'bombs' until the police said they were bombs.
