Uwila - depends on the pet : I guess walking the dog would make you fitter - for some reason opening tins of tuna for the cat doesn't seem to burn as many calories Grin

meowmix · 15/05/2006 11:33

if I'm so flipping healthy as a working mum why am I constantly exhausted, look like hell and stressed out? can I blame Gordon for that too?

Uwila · 15/05/2006 11:39

What is a Machiato? Am I missing something?

CountessDracula · 15/05/2006 11:44

it's a double espresso with a bit of froth on the top

Uwila · 15/05/2006 11:46

Oh no. Much too strong for me. I'm a coffee lightweight. Will have to pass on that treat.

CountessDracula · 15/05/2006 11:47

I am the coffee equiv of a crack head

Uwila · 15/05/2006 11:53

Gosh, how very American-like. Shock

CountessDracula · 15/05/2006 11:54

Really? I always find the coffee in the US to be watery and vile

Uwila · 15/05/2006 12:04

I find all coffee vile, except for a nice skinny mocha. And this of course is because the chocolate drowns out the coffee flavour.

Just because Americans love their coffee. My dad almost went into shock when he came to visit and I told him we didn't have a coffee maker. He said something like "you know, coffe is one of life's vital fluids" so we had to go buy him one. It is only ever used when he comes to visit.

CountessDracula · 15/05/2006 12:07

Ewwwwwwwwwww

Mocha is an abberation I tell you!! Grin
Yes I am like your Dad, I get all panicky if I am somewhere without a coffee maker!

(saddo)

Uwila · 15/05/2006 12:10

And the worst of it is over here, everyone thiks oh you are American therefore you like coffee not tea and they go make me this raunchy cup of instant coffee. It's all I can do to drink it with a straight face and not gag. Lots of milk and 12 sugars, please.

CountessDracula · 15/05/2006 12:26

Serving instant coffee should be an imprisonable offence in my book Grin

MissChief · 15/05/2006 18:57

fellow macchiato fan. Don't seem to be many of us out there judging by the amount of times i end up with a frothy choccy horror instead of the double macchiato requested (did I order a moccacino, or whatever, ffs?) off with their heads, honestly! Grin

MissChief · 15/05/2006 18:59

btw - back on topic, think I'm distinctly more healthy when a working mum as opposed to SAHM - currently going mad at home!

fattiemumma · 15/05/2006 19:42

i am much fatter and far less ft than i was when i was a nice single person who worked and culd wear an outfit all day without it getting so rotten you had to change.

drosophila · 15/05/2006 19:52

After having DS went back to work full time and I am sure I aged 10 years in 5 years. The sheer stress and worry of getting to Nursery on time, battling full trains, train cancellations, idiot bosses, coping with sickness whe you have no suport, geting all house work done, not doing a good job at work cos you are so exhausted, hoping your boss doesn't suss that you are useless and are not doing your hours, trying to look like you havent got snot and puke on your suit, trying to watch your weight cos the only thing that gives your enjoyment is food and drink and finally trying to be up for sex.

Yeah being a working Mum is good for your health. Just gone back to work after DD but his time 3 days a week. I hope I only age 7 years over the next 5.

Yep. What she said.....Grin!!!

I've got bags under my eyes, suffering from panic attacks and stress related eczema on my hands. Picture of health. Oh... but I'm not overweight...hurray!!

MissChief · 16/05/2006 12:58

but at least you have less time for angst & guilt for bad and for good, IFYKWIM?
I think I spend far too much time worrying about everything and think I might have to go back to work to keep sane (and to wear one lot of stain-free clothes for an entire day!)

Uwila · 17/05/2006 08:50

You can forget about the stain free clothes. The kiddies have plenty of talent for messing them up just you run out the door at 7:00am. I got a bloody lip wiped on my shirt this morning. And snot on the trousers is not uncommon either.

Bozza · 17/05/2006 09:02

I always find random smears of toothpaste mid afternoon...

NotAnOtter · 17/05/2006 09:07

Just back to coffe bit ..i am a bit of a coffee lover but only proper machine stuff not even cafetiere ...mil came at weekend and i sent ds1 into room to see who wanted one adding ' tell them we only have instant' what dp thought i dont know but he did not correct him! Grin

blueshoes · 17/05/2006 09:07

... and sticky finger prints on my spectacles

MrsBigD · 17/05/2006 09:40

Working mum here and since having had kids I'm picking up most bugs going round, probably a side effect of years of sleep deprivation and also had a couple of stints of depression... in my case working mother = healthier... most certainly not Grin

BUT off to the gym later this afternoon ... better get might hight checked in case I've shrunk due to lifting pork chop toddler too much Grin

AnnieSG · 17/05/2006 09:45

Sorry to veer off topic again, but I'm with CountessD on the coffee thing. I used to like lattes until I realised what terrible milky swill they are and now can only tolerate them if they have two extra shots (yes, that's right Mrs Barista, I did say two extra. I'd rather have none at all than instant cack.

Bugsy2 · 17/05/2006 09:54

I'm definitely more active because I work & it certainly isn't because I'm naturally energetic. I have to do all that throwing of children into childcare before I sprint to tube station, stand all the way to work, walk the other end & then do the same in reverse at the end of the day.
I'm not sure I'm healthier - I feel knackered!

I always hate these generalistic articles. All women's lives are different. I've got working friends outside of London whose arses are glued to their car seats and I've got SAHM friends who get to go to the gym most days Envy. Sure its more complex than just WOHM & SAHM.
