\link{http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4945428.stm\One of Blair's Golden Boys does it again!}

"The released prisoners, which included three murderers, nine rapists and five child sex offenders, should have been considered for deportation under the Home Office's own rules. The problem stretches back to 1999."

Clarke offered his resignation but Blair won't hear of it. It all sounds sadly familiar.

tossers

Feistybird · 26/04/2006 10:24

It ought to be sufficient to bring the Government down.

MrsBigD · 26/04/2006 10:28

well election day is coming Grin

Twinkie1 · 26/04/2006 10:28

Why don't they get a big stamp and put it on their file so when they are being sorted for release they realise they just have to drive them straight to the docks and kick them off the nearest jetty with a big weight on their ankle.

Thing is I hate that nothing will happen - Clarke is saying he at least knows about it now and can change things - bit late for some people whose lives have been or will be ruined by these people - next they will find out we are paying them fucking benefits too!!!

fastasleep · 26/04/2006 10:30

What on earth is worse a labour government that fcks up like that* (I mean FFS!!!)

or a Tory gov, oh christ.... worse of two evils...

everyone vote lib dem please for fasty, please lol

edam · 26/04/2006 10:33

It's appalling. But I can see how it might have happened - different agencies not talking to each other. With different procedures, different jargon and very different computer systems. Is mad but not exclusive to Labour governments - there were a couple of scandals about maladministration when Howard was home sec. Including one when loads of prisoners had to be released early because the Home Office had miscalculated the length of their sentences.

JoolsToo · 26/04/2006 10:36

yes but edam how long ago was that? Surely 'measures were put in place' following 'investigations' 'to make sure this doesn't happen again'.

If departments can't communicate and work together we're all dooooooooooomed!

fastasleep ... we had LibDem canvassing us last night... he was quite yummy LOL

Twinkie1 · 26/04/2006 10:41

Big stamp stomoped on the front of their release file must do it or a big flashing light on top of the PC when they look at their records FFs even my 15 year old nephew could write a comp programme to flash up a warning on these bastards files!!!

edam · 26/04/2006 10:51

You have a very good point Jools but government agencies don't talk to each other they way you'd expect.

Twinkie, you would think so, but I bet the prison service and immigration service have different computer systems that don't communicate. So even if there was a flashing light on the prison system it probably wouldn't get through to the immigration service (and might not even get down to the front door, to be honest). And if there's no-one there from immigration to pick the people up, the prison has to let them go, I expect - they've served their sentence so the prison can't keep them any longer.

None of this is right, it should be sorted, but I can see how it would happen.

edam · 26/04/2006 10:52

Btw, I don't actually know much about how the Home Office, prison service and immigration service work - just extrapolating from what I know about other government agencies and departments.

Twinkie1 · 26/04/2006 10:59

But it is just crap then - FFS give me the list of people and when they are to be released and I could ring immigration and tell them and oprganise for someone to be there to meet them with a cattle prod and a gag!!

foxinsocks · 26/04/2006 11:14

they knew about this last year and did nowt it seems

JoolsToo · 26/04/2006 12:31

Menzies Campbell revealed at PMQT that a Nigerian prisoner (eligible for deportation) was released into the community this very morning.

I think we'll probably hear more about that!

David Davis - brilliant!

edam is right - these agencies often don't communicate with each other. I quite often get (psychiatric) patients from prison and you would be amazed how many of them are illegal immigrants/don't have leave to stay. Bearing in mind that the section they arrive on is a home office section, you'd think that the home office would tell us wouldn't you. WRONG! We often have to tell them. Also, another issue is that the courts rarely serve sentence on people who commit crimes who have mental health problems (they assume they are psychotic 100% of the time)and therefore they happily send these people to psychiatric services (out of sight, out of mind)and these people then at some point (and much quicker than if they'd gone to prison)are discharged into the community. So I'm really not surprised at this fuck up.
