Shock

Are we all so hung up on presentation that the PM's wife appearing windswept would have affected the election result?

And £275 per day? Not as if it's even that long...

Hi R (need to talk to you about singing- will email later!)

She was robbed!!!!

Our local hairdresser could have done that for 20 quid!

(badly subbed article too)

Tortington · 21/04/2006 08:51

a fkin paper bag couldnt cure that one

Caligula · 21/04/2006 11:52

Keir Hardie must be turning in his grave.

Every time I read something like this I am further convinced that this shower of people who have hijacked the Labour Party are simply not Labour people. Their attitudes and outlook are just not compatible with Labour values. And I'm not even a Labour person myself, but I know one when I see one and this shower of designer-clad light-blue Tories are about as Labour as David Cameron.

And lord if I'd spent that much on a haircut and still had to shag Tony Blair I'd be depressed.

LOL at Caligula's last comment!

Bugsy2 · 21/04/2006 12:28

Then she was spending about £270 too much - her hair mostly looks scruffy!
She was being ripped off! Grin

fairyjay · 21/04/2006 12:33

Obviously power's gone to her head!

FredBassett · 21/04/2006 12:37

I can believe it - didn't you see the clip of her answering the front door first thing in the morning? - She has crazy hair!! Grin

frogs · 21/04/2006 12:44

It is an outrageous amount, but I do feel slightly sorry for CB as she's caught between a rock and a hard place. If she'd done a diy with some frizz-ease and a pair of ghd straighteners the same journalists who are now putting the boot in about her extravagant hairdos would doubless be queueing up to ridicule her for having no style and looking scruffy.

I think being in that much of a media spotlight must be a really tough call if you're not someone who is naturally well-groomed and stylish.

fairyjay · 21/04/2006 12:49

But frogs, there has to be a middle way. Surely blow dry every morning shouldn't cost £275!

Bugsy2 · 21/04/2006 12:52

I worked with a very senior business woman and she had a hairdresser to do her hair everytime she had a big function, presentation etc.
Hairdresser (from trendy Notting Hill salon) would come to her home, give her a trim & blowdry for £55 & that is as of 3 months ago.
£275 must have been for colour or something else - unless she had Nicky Clarke doing it!!!

Caligula · 21/04/2006 12:57

I wonder if that senior businesswoman was charging her company Bugsy.

That's what gets me about this - Cherie Blair is entitled to spend whatever she wants on her hair, clothes, shoes, wigs, whatever. But to charge the Labour Party for it - well, that's going to encourage donations isn't it?

frogs · 21/04/2006 12:57

No no, I started off by saying it was an outrageous amount. But I can imagine (not being naturally sleek and groomed myself) that in her position it might be easy to get paranoid about looking a mess and end up overdoing things. Comparing CB to sandra howard is a bit unfair too, since SH is naturally gorgeous whereas CB isn't.

Whether that amount of hairdressing constitutes a legitimate business expense is v. dubious, however. Can't see the inland revenue swallowing it were I to put it down on my tax return. Grin

Kathy1972 · 21/04/2006 12:59

I assume the £275 was to have someone following her around everywhere waiting in the wings to touch it up for every single appearance, not just a once-a-day blowdry.
Still damn steep though.

robin3 · 21/04/2006 13:04

Poor woman...she never looks nice and clearly needs a great deal of help and reassurance to look as dreadful as she does.

Bugsy2 · 21/04/2006 13:05

This particularly business woman is a huge supporter of the Labour Party & as soon as she is enobled or entitled (she's on the current much disputed list), I have no doubt she will be piling whatever expense she can justifiably get away with through the House of Lords!
I am going to resist a full scale rant about the corruption of New Labour.

fairyjay · 21/04/2006 13:21

Come on Bugsy - tell!!

expatinscotland · 21/04/2006 13:24

her hair always looks like shit.

homemama · 21/04/2006 13:27

It is an absurd amount of money for a daily hair set but I do feel sorry for her. She seems damned is she does (make an effort) and damned if she doesn't. If the bloody press didn't go on about how she looks all the time then maybe she wouldn't think it necessary. Something tells me that this successful woman has lost confidence since her husband took office.

I also read somewhere that her annual salary is about 250k. Therefore, if the labour party are expecting her to take weeks and weeks off, which in her job she wouldn't get paid for, then I think it's reasonable that they pick up her tabs.

It's nothing new BTW, as Maggie actually had a resident hairdresser on hand at No.10!

Bugsy2 · 21/04/2006 13:29

Heavens no - I'd be in deepest doodoo. One of her best mates is Stella Rimington - I'd probably have M15 tapping into my internet connection & be arrested for subversion!

ruty · 21/04/2006 13:29

agree with caligula.

Kathy1972 · 21/04/2006 13:32

So do I (agree with Caligula I mean).
It's not just about donations, but a lot of people volunteer a lot of their time for political parties. How are labour volunteers going to feel about it? (Some of them presumably will accept the pragmatic 'well, we won the election' line but I'm sure others will be horrified).

fairyjay · 21/04/2006 13:36

Where did Maggie's resident hairdresser sleep - I thought there was only a tiny flat at No. 10?!!

Seashells · 21/04/2006 13:38

I don't care what the PM's wife's hair looks like. What on earth was she getting done that cost £275 per day anyway??? I'm more interested in labour sorting out things such as the pathetic tax credits system.. then I might have enough money to at least get my hair cut once in a while! Grrr.
