\link{http://www.stuff.co.nz/stuff/thepress/0,2106,3632779a6530,00.html\paid parental leave increases breastfeeding rates}

Okay, so why would you interview this woman and show her picture (and give Avent a free advert) when the article is on breastfeeding?

Could it be because the last time the paper showed a breast (Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfuntion) they got loads of complaints?

lol bubble now that you have mentioned that my toes are rather hair numbers!!and I'm contemplating knitting my own scarf!!Total pointless tat, why are people afraid to show a breast? page 3 does it no probs!! cannot comprehend what the big deal is???

ghosty · 10/04/2006 03:10

Oh, threebob, I know ... call CloseUp ... TV1 ... point out the article to them ... ???

As the day wears on I increasingly find I can't be arsed. PPL didn't affect me as I lost my job when pg.

I think this article is quite instructive on what happens when you are a naive first time mum and don't realise what bfing would be like, and don't appear to have received sensible advice re:formula top ups. I would be quite intrigued as to whether she was still in hospital or in the community at this point - i.e. whether a mw suggested topping up!

ItalianJob · 10/04/2006 08:57

though I do agree that it really has sod all to do with paid parental leave, and they should have found someone that was bfing say past the 6 month stage

moondog · 10/04/2006 09:04

I think it has quite a lot to do with paid parental leave actually.
Witness scores of threads from people trying to get baby onto a bottle before they return to work and/or panicking about expressing.

I always understood that high b/feeding rates in Scandi were linked with this??

Tiktok,any comments??

ItalianJob · 10/04/2006 09:05

Moondog - I meant that this particular woman's experiences weren't relevant re:paid parental leave - as she introduced formula at 4 days!

threebob · 10/04/2006 09:08

Paid parental leave is only 14 weeks - I think the stats demonstrate that there is a link. I've not heard from the journalist, but I reckon she's probably about 12 - after all the story was buried on around page 8.

A photo of someone breastfeeding dose not have to show a breast at all though does it?

Flamesparrow · 10/04/2006 09:23

How bizarre! Never read an article that seemed so disjoined and irrelevant! Who cares about some woman and her bottle? Surely interviewing someone who switched to bottle feeding early with baby #1, but is now exclusively breastfeeding at 16 weeks with #2 would make more sense??

How long did that woman think the baby would feed for??? It was 4 days old - there is a limit to just how much a 4 day old can get out!

harpsichordcarrier · 10/04/2006 09:29

completely pointless article
really unfortunate that it perpetuates the myth that if your baby is feeding loads then you haven't got enough milk so you should switch to formula.
which is balls

threebob · 12/04/2006 19:52

She never rang me back - very rude.
