Lucy Mangan

just read this, and think everyone who agrees with limiting the number of children you can claim for, should also read it

princess - every child in the country has access to a good standard of education.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/10/2012 17:50

A good education is meaningless if you are hungry, wearing clothes that dont fit and generally miserable because your life is shit at home.

Nancy, I am glad you have such a comfortable life that you couldnt possibly fathom the shit people in this country are going through.

Well we have to compete with China. They are really big and have their own oil and a bit bigger than us so we can't invade them. If they were smaller I am quite sure Blair and Bush would have spent the children's money on that as well. Princess is right but it is also sad that the only people who really get how fucking lucky you are to have free education are economic migrants. When I lived in Bangladesh children did actually live in poverty. It is incomparable to use poverty as a way to describe a free for all safety net.

Does that mean that a good education is meaningless for rural families in Africa? Does it mean that a good education was meaningless before the welfare state?

If anything a good education is more meaningful when your background is poor because it's the best way you can make something of your life.

Emotional blackmail. Weak.

Quasimodo · 14/10/2012 17:57

nancy not all kids can engage in the education system effectively, for multiple reasons and through no fault of their own

I have to bisexual this now. The sixth form idealism is getting on my nerves. Just attention seeking threads left right and centre.

theodorakis · 14/10/2012 18:00

Hide not bisexual. Bisexual would be good though, maybe I would get accepted by the lefties. See ya

Nancy66 · 14/10/2012 18:01

quasi - yes, thank you for that. Revelatory once again.

Quasimodo · 14/10/2012 18:01

regardless of sexuality Grin I think it is the tories guilty of idealism

society isnt perfect, we are not the Borg...you have to work with it..you cant hammer it into shape

Nancy66 · 14/10/2012 18:02

'bisexual'.....where the hell did that come from???!!!

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/10/2012 18:02

Emotional blackmail? I think not.

I am sick of people who have comfortable lives sitting in judgement of those less fortunate.

Quasimodo · 14/10/2012 18:03

well, what is your point then nancy? what is the point in saying 'all children have access to a free education' d/

I think we should get more Housing Benefit the more houses we own or rent. It's not fair that the government won't subsidise second homes.

theodorakis · 14/10/2012 18:05

iPad and post surgical stupor. I am just going to pop back and check the last few days emails I have sent

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/10/2012 18:08

And why is it always brought back to africa? Seriously?

Relative poverty is a real issue in the UK. It may not be relative to Africa but does that suddenly make it ok? Are the corrupt governments of third world countries a model we are aspiring to?

theodorakis · 14/10/2012 18:13

In that case corruption is also relative. Labour and Conservative have both proved they are not trustworthy and frankly I would prefer taxes to be carefully spent and debated than to fund some socialist fuckers porn habit.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 14/10/2012 18:18

This governments policies feel like the thin edge of a corrupt wedge to me.

Viviennemary · 14/10/2012 18:24

Labour had absolutely no answers for the prolems this country faced. Even in the good times. So I certainly don't think they have any answers in the bad times. I voted for them. But I'm glad they didn't get in. I don't think I'll be voting for them till they come up with some sensible solutions.

theodorakis · 14/10/2012 18:27

I don't think there is much difference. Blair just told more lies and smiled more. And Harman destroyed any validity they could claim. I hate her for that.

Viviennemary · 14/10/2012 18:32

I also cannot stand Harriet Harman. A rich priviledged person who think she has all the answers. She has no answers. She annoys me more than any other politician.

PrincessSymbian · 14/10/2012 20:54

Personally, I don't think much of the education system in this country. It's not about educating the majority, it is about somewhere that can be responsible for the children, while their parents go and work, it is about getting children socialised so that they don't question the status quo left and it's about keeping young people occupied so they have less time for 'socially' destructive behaviour.
Oh and it keeps people employed too.

theodorakis · 15/10/2012 05:59

Wow, strong words princess! I sort of agree with you, especially about tiny little people having to be assessed for reading etc. I would have preferred to have educated mine in Europe where they don't start learning until later and get the chance to play rather than agonise over what is in their lunchbox or worry their knickers are the wrong shade of blue. It is a bit of a big brother's baby minding service, especially as TAs and teachers seem to have the right to question people's parenting left right and centre.

I think so.

Your post deliberately attempted to create a feeling of guilt. Its purpose was emotional blackmail.

Here you are sitting in judgement of people who you deem to have 'comfortable lives'. How is your judgement superior to theirs?
