Yes, she's 11 not 12

All sounds rather odd. Where are her parents?

threesocksmorgan · 21/08/2012 13:30

it said 12 on the news last night, sorry. they said her parents were under protection.

Hooray for the religion of peace.

ReallyTired · 22/08/2012 13:54

What kind of country would put an eleven year old with Downs in jail for burning a book.

It sounds like she has been set up.

Childrenofthestones · 27/08/2012 22:24

A shithole backward country maybe?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-19391460

"Her parents have been taken into protective custody following threats, and many other Christian families are reported to have fled the neighbourhood.

There are fears that even if she is released, Rimsha's family will not be safe in Pakistan. Others accused of blasphemy have been killed by vigilante mobs in the recent past. "

CogitoErgoSometimes · 28/08/2012 15:21

Sounds like some mediaeval witch-burning exercise. Hmm What's the Pakistan government doing to protect this girl or prosecute the angry mob?

ripsishere · 30/08/2012 06:35

Not sure whether it will help, but I've just signed an Avaz petition to be sent to the President of Pakistan.
I can link if anyone is interested.

Belladesconocida · 30/08/2012 11:34

I'm interested, rip

SilverSixpence · 30/08/2012 11:46

This is a horrible story, some areas of Pakistan seem to only recognise mob rule by the ignorant. This is very far removed from Islam and has been condemned by Islamic groups in Pakistan and elsewhere (e.g. Huffington Post

The Pakistani government should NOT be allowing this to happen. Corruption is rife in Pakistan, the police and legal system cannot be trusted to do their job properly in this case.

My parents attend a church where many parishoners have left Pakistan because of persecution.

Catkinsthecatinthehat · 31/08/2012 09:35

Now the prosecution lawyer has boasted in public that if she's acquitted, Muslims will kill her anyway

Not that she has a great chance of being cleared. According to the Guardian article the court won't actually hear what the act of blasphemy was supposed to be, as repeating it would be blasphemous in itself, so they'll reach a verdict without even hearing the actual evidence.

Caerlaverock · 31/08/2012 09:40

If the judge clears her he will become a target also, it is alarming and farcical.

RabidAnchovy · 31/08/2012 09:50

Disgusting, bunch of un-evolved wankers

ripsishere · 02/09/2012 07:40

interesting story from the BBC here

anairofhope · 02/09/2012 07:48

Its evil to treat a child in such a way. She must be so scared.

Kveta · 02/09/2012 12:29

just saw that on the guardian website rips how utterly repugnant that man is :(

I agree with Rabid

threesocksmorgan · 02/09/2012 22:43

I do hope some one puts her and her family on a plane out of there

alemci · 03/09/2012 16:16

saw the chap being arrested on the news last night. thought it was sad that his crime was blasphemy for removing pages of the Koran etc not for setting up an innocent victim. how can someone who is meant to be religious do such a terrible thing?

feel really sorry for the christians there. why can't the majority religion live and let live. just don't understand.

TheCrackFox · 03/09/2012 16:52

It really is about time that Pakistan entered the 21st century and stopped acting like it is still the middle ages.
