Poor prince Phil, just read he's been taken into hospital again, he seems to be struggling health wise this year :(

I do see LBE´s point.

The man is 90-it´ll hardly be unexpected when it does happen!

That doesn´t mean that it´s wished that it will happen.

Bathsheba · 15/08/2012 21:23

Ohohohohoh I am about 500 yards (flying crow) from prince Philip as we speak (and I'm in my living room).

Please can I be the official mn royal correspondent

ajandjjmum · 15/08/2012 21:29

These conspiracy theories make me smile - remember at the Jubilee, everyone was thinking that he'd died but that they'd kept it under wraps!

Hope he gets over this, although sadly he is starting to look very frail. Bet he hates it!

jandymaccomesback · 15/08/2012 21:38

My Pa is 95 and recently spent three weeks in hospital(first illness in about 20 years) looking as though he was on his last legs, but is now back home and very chirpy for his age. Prince Philip may well have something wrong, but we shouldn't write him off yet.

2beornot · 15/08/2012 21:43

I was just thinking earlier how sad it would be of he died this year. It'd just put a dampener on what has been a fantastic year for Queenand country

Dramajustfollowsme · 15/08/2012 21:45

Poor Phil, ARI is horrible too. Bet they had to clean the ward especially for him coming. Bathsheba, I'll take the other shifts as royal correspondent if you like. I'm about 2 miles from the hospital.

Aquelven · 16/08/2012 20:02

My dad is 92 & still pottering along quite happily. He lives by himself & takes great pride in being to cope without the waiting on that the royals get. Don't write Prince Philip off just yet.

Mechavivzilla · 17/08/2012 03:13

I should have been the royal correspondent! Up until about 8PM I was in ARI with a Gallstone attack. The place is swarming with police and journalists.

jandymaccomesback · 17/08/2012 10:40

Call me a sceptic, but if Joe Public aged 92 had a urine infection he'd probably get antibiotics and an Outpatients appointment, not five days in hospital. It might not be as serious as we think. (Or it might as FiL died of bladder cancer, but trying not to think about that.)

WidowWadman · 17/08/2012 18:18

jandy - I wouldn't bet on it - it depends on the severity of the UTI - Phil's on IV antibiotics so it's quite normal that he's in hospital.

I spent several days in hospital with a UTI on a drip last year at the grand old age of 32 and I'm not a royal either.

JustFabulous · 17/08/2012 18:33

Maybe the doctor's are keeping him in more to rest than because he needs treatment, as such.

NewlyMintedPeasant · 17/08/2012 21:49

I always tbh saw him as a bit of an object of ridicule before. However during the jubilee celebrations I met him whilst accompanying school children. The organisers had messed up and placed school children way away from where they could see the Queen. He noticed the kids and popped back out alone. He was fantastic with the children, showing interest and clearly such a thoughtful decent guy. Not a hint of the stuck up plummy git I expected, but someone who was clearly a natural Grandfather. He then spoke to people to ensure the children did meet the queen and her walk out was re-directed and she shook hands. It was so thoughtful and such a stark contast to the orgnisers and Boris Johnson who promised all the children to pop over and didn't bother. I've seen Boris a few times at official events, he really is an upperclass fool and not bothered about others.

On the way out Prince Phillip grinned at a guy on a mobilityscooter and asked him how many people he'd run over that day. Amazingly normal guy with a way with people, especially children. Totally happy too to step back out of the limelight for the Queen, how many men could be so comfortable with that.

I'm in a way surprised to write this, I'm no Royalist for sure, but respect where it's due.

jandymaccomesback · 18/08/2012 09:59

Main thing about Prince Philip is that he and the Queen are clearly happy together and for that reason I hope he lasts a lot longer.

StealthPolarBear · 18/08/2012 10:01

that's lovely NMP
Though in fairness how many children would care who Boris is or want to meet him - or am I out of touch?
(no defending him!)

mellen · 18/08/2012 10:05

He doesnt seem like someone who would want to be in hospital if he didn't need it. Older people are frequently admitted to hospital with UTI's.

Bossybritches22 · 18/08/2012 10:13

I too wondered if he was ill or had died at the closing ceremony, there was a pointedly empty chair next to Harry. He did look uneasy but maybe it's because he was "taking one for the firm" as said before! Kate was there as support but otherwise he was alone which he hasn't done much, Wills is working so his turn I guess.

There was a shot of Zara happily partying in amongst the athletes so I guess all must have been well or she wouldn't have been in the throng.

Conspiracy theorist here too!! Grin

I suspect he is such an active old bugger the only way to get him to rest is to confine him to his bed while the abs work & ban visitors as yesterday.

UTI's can have very serious effects on the elderly, he just needs to slow down & rest a bit more but I suspect that ain't gonna happen! Smile

ajandjjmum · 18/08/2012 12:52

I'm sure he's still around Bossy, unless they had a very effective stand-in at Cowes Week! Grin

Lovely to hear your story NMP - I've always liked him. Reminds me of my Dad - didn't always say the right thing, but always did the right thing.

UnrequitedSkink · 21/08/2012 08:12

Aww, NMP, I loved that story!
