Michael Gove has today announced that teachers without QTS will be allowed to teach in Academies. Guardian Story.
It's not often I agree with Christine Blower but I think she's hit the nail on the head here. [Michael Gove] takes his inspiration from Sweden, where profits are being made by reducing the number of qualified teachers, and where educational standards have fallen. By contrast, the reason Finland scores so highly in international tables is because they value teachers, trust teachers and pay teachers well. I should add, Finland train their teachers too and that training is ongoing and rigorous.
