Oh, I hope they catch him. :(

It's not far from me. They have had several fatal stabbings recently too. The man who did some work on our house lived in Clacton..he was stabbed a couple of months ago Sad

Empusa · 10/07/2012 01:35

Wow.. I never thought of Clacton as a rough area!

Clacton has nice areas...but there has been a few problems there over the last year. I have quite a few friends there..hope they catch the shooter, my friends have children..must be very scary for them.

Empusa · 10/07/2012 01:42

I bet :( Read that they are advising people to stay indoors.

I hope the catch the bastard soon, what a truly evil man!!
How on earth are people getting hold of gunsSad

Birdsgottafly · 10/07/2012 08:44

This was in one of the 'nice areas', though.

They are saying that it is an arguement over parking and noise, which judging by the threads on MN, it is a serious issue for many (still not enough to shoot someone over, obviously).

Another neighbour said that the killer held 'certain views' and interestingly enough, thought it important to mention that the man he was trying to shoot dead was black.

PC Dibell was very brave and lost his life trying to intervene, it must be such a shock for his family to have him killed like that, off duty.

Clacton has got nice areas, but on the whole I wouldn't call it nice tbh, there have been shed loads of stabbings and some shootings there over the past few years which didn't get big media coverage.

I was going to start a thread last night about it but wanted to make sure nobody I knew was involved before I did, I know loads of cops in Clacton so was a bit worried, especially when I couldn't get hold of any family members to find out if it was one of the cops we know :( It's not thankfully, but I wasn't too reassured half hour ago when I realised that a body had been found a stones throw from my sister's house in Writtle either (they're also safe, she just called).

Poor PC Dibell, I will be thinking of his family and his colleagues who, going by my fb page, have nothing but good to say about him :(

BlackOutTheSun · 10/07/2012 11:12

Its all over now, the gun man had been found dead in a churchyard.

RIP PC Dibell

confusedpixie · 10/07/2012 11:23

I got that from twitter just after posting. Thank goodness. But I can't help but think what a dick, he should have gone through the justice system.

KRITIQ · 10/07/2012 11:46

I agree he should have been held to account for killing the police officer and wounding the man he shot first. However, at least he will no longer be a risk to anyone else.

I don't really want to link to the article, but did anyone else read the article about the case in the Daily Mail? There was something very dubious about how they reported the incident, including:

^Eric Long, 80, said he looked out of his living room window to see Reeve holding a firearm.^
^?I heard a bang ? I had been asleep then heard it. I spent 30 years in the air force so I knew what it was,? he added.^
^?I saw him standing with some kind of revolver. He was chasing somebody, firing as he went.^
^'I then saw the black man running down the street. He looked like he might have fallen over and he had his phone glued to his ear.^
^?Something just got too much. He had asked for help before ? this guy lived below him and they clashed.^
^?The way I look at it there was just no way of stopping him ? it was a build-up of things. Some people get tense and then just eventually explode.^
^?He was very pleasant to speak to but he had certain views on how the world should be ? he has certain standards.?^

and then

^^One resident said he was a ?nice chap? and a ?very smart man? who was known for helping other elderly neighbours. He said: ?I?ve known him for a long time. He probably has the nicest decorated flat in the whole place.?
^^

The quotes are in the updated article, but they were in the report this morning when the gunman was still at large, the police officer was dead and another man wounded. It just seemed to me to be really inappropriate to include comments like that at this stage.

I agree Kritiq, but that's pretty standard for the DM.

I guess it could only have ended this way.

I wouldn't expect better from the DM being hoenst, I didn't even check that article as I knew it'd pee me off Blush

I was just been checking twitter, the telegraph and BBC News for info. Mainly twitter, as my family haven't been on facebook and not answering their phones due to signal (apparently) but everyone has been on twitter so I was reading updates whilst waiting for family to get back to me on there!
